Which is more comfortable: a 2017 SR5 passenger seat or bleachers?

That's probably really disrespectful to bleachers, but seriously, you know when you sit on bleachers, and it's OK for the first 10 minutes? Ya, the front passenger standard cloth seat cushion is garbage.

I'm a 6'3", 285LB guy; the angle the seat hits the butt and the lack of "give" is something that just wasn't thought out. It's something that wasn't apparent when test-driving. So I make my wife ride shotgun! — I kid, but she's the one who first told me about the crappy quality within the first few days of touring around town. It's completely different on the Driver's side.

We've even joked that if we take a trip, she'll need to sit in the back.

I've now given serious consideration to buying custom leather seats just for the front row, and that's just silly talk.

Is anyone else having issues with this?

There's a big difference between bucket seats and captain chairs..bucket seats don't offer any lumbar support..my sr have bucket seats I was under the impression sr5 had captain Chair seats

Thanks. I'm not sure what they're called (I need to find my sticker). But these are the seats:

Do they have lumbar support on one of the sides?

I thought the OEM cloth seats were fine when I had them. However, I upgraded them to Classic Soft Trim leather seats and they are fantastic now. It definitely added additional padding and comfort.

Yes, the driver's seat is adjustable, with a lumbar adjustment. (passenger has recline adjustment only) It's not as much back pain, as it is at the top of the butt. Almost like what would happen in an office chair if it was way too low; but the seat isn't too low. So I blame the cushion composition.

So you have a captain's chair on the driver side and a bucket seat on the passenger side? The bucket seats seems to be more sucked in towards the lower back and that will cause extra presure on the tail bone

Um, it's a toss-up. And the seats are canted just slightly toward the center console. I'm guessing it's to make sure occupants don't lean on the doors (the owners manual has safety warnings), but it's Really Uncomfortable. I like most everything else but am Super Disappointed with this. I don't like for in-town local driving, and definitely anticipate it will be a bummer on extended drives. You'd think Toyota would know: If you've got $ enough to buy (and feed) a Tundra, you've either got at least a few years on you, or work a lot. So... a design that will lead to back pain is hard to reconcile. How 'bout, warn us not to lean on the doors, but give us a supportive platform that squares with the steering wheel.

I don't imagine Toyota's reading this, but I agree with you: these seats are terrible!

    I literally LOL'd at this.

BTW: I sent the same note to my local dealership in Carmel, Indiana (Butler Toyota), and here was the reply...

I am sorry that you are not happy with the comfort of the seats in your Tundra. I have not had anyone else tell me they were having an issue with the Tundra seats. I did look online and found some options for seat cushions, pads and covers. I think I would try that first.

If you have any further questions or if I can be of further assistance please let me know.

I have not been able to get comfortable in my Tundras seat and i have had it almost 2 years now. I usually get out of it with a bad back ache!!
The seats in my 99 GMC sierra is a raggedy worn out bench seat and it is way way more comfortable than the Tundra. My 98 taco was more comfortable too. Tundras seats are the worst i have ever sat in. Maybe its because im about 30 lbs over weight. Need to lose this weight and see if it helps....im sure it will.

My truck is an 08. It has the center console. I have cloth seats and the driver's seat has the air lumbar support. I just drove 4900 miles in 12 days and I thought it was super comfortable. I even have severe back problems and arthritis. It is the only vehicle I can drive for extended amounts of time. I guess everyone has a different take.

Have you ever sat in a Tacoma??? My 08 probably has the most uncomfortable seats I've ever sat in. When ever I drive it now, I swear I need to get better seats. I'm just lazy as hell, and any money spent on the Tacoma is money for tundra mods :bananadance:

I thought my tundra was an upgrade and personally love them...:notsure:

Ya, the driver's seat is much different than the passenger seat. The passenger seat is what we're hating on.

Gotcha. That makes sense. Is it worse then a 4Runner? My wife has one of those and the seats suck in it.

I put a solid 1,000 miles on my 2017 in the first week. Seats felt fine to me and I didn't have any back problems. (I'm 6'2"/270lbs).

My 2010 SR5 seats are very comfortable (both driver seat and the passenger seat--and rear seats are awesome).

Maybe Toyota downgraded their seats along several different items in 3rd gen Tundras.:notsure:

My 12' were not the best seats I have ever had, but were pretty good.

You can also go to an upholstery shop and have them make a new seat pan for you. I had to do that with my Dodges after a year of use. It cost me like 100.00, and made all the difference in the world.

New seats are going to cost you.

Holy crap you just answered my mystery I think. I thought I was going crazy wondering why I was always leaning inward or at least felt off balance. Its very slight, but I always feel just a touch off balance like I'm leaning inward.

@Redbeard321 Despite more exciting mod ideas, I think I'll try fixing this first. See if I can lift the seats, insert washers on the console side. Seems pretty low-rent for a first mod but, yeah, if no one else offers a triedand true fix, I plan to try it. Please let me know if you come across another fix.

I've figured out I don't mind the actual driver's seat otherwise; I understand others find it too stiff, but so think the canted install is my only real concern. I'll plan to buy a lumbar pillow for the passenger seat.

If you want to feel better about your cloth seats try spending time in a limited. Fucking horrible. Like might sell the truck horrible. Swapped to cloth and felt much better but not great.

I liked the cloth fabric material in my 98 Tacoma MUCH MUCH better than the Tundras fabric. Tundras fabric feels very cheap and slippery. But... it does have that Toyota logo on the front and that is the MAIN thing that i care about. I have started removing my wallet from my left rear pocket as well as my gun and it is more comfortable.

I didn't think the cloth sr5 seats were too bad definitely better than some cars I've ridden in.

    Everything. Literally.
Thanks god somebody touched on this. I didn't want to be a little bitch and start complaining about my seats, but I've noticed the same thing, like I'm always leaning toward the center of the cab. I thought one of my legs was longer than the other or some crazy shit. Why TF would they angle the seats like that. It's annoying as shit when you have to adjust yourself all the time while you're driving.

    Wtf, Toyota.
Send me a '18 Pro and we'll call it even.

I put about 750-1000 miles per week on the 17 Tundra SR5, I am 6-01 250 and have no issue with the driver seat. The passenger seat is awful, the wife and I just got back from NY and she complained about it. I sat (slept) in it for a couple of hours and hated it. I have thought about upgrading to a Platinum but like the length of my DC bed. I have also thought about adding Katskins and having the passenger seat redone while the cover is off.

I'm with you. My driver's seat is a dream. I'm very thankful for my 08 cloth seats. Maybe the dude before me broke them in nicely but they are like a lazy boy and I've got no complaints. My only one complaint is I have a hard time staying awake. I can almost fall asleep it is so comfortable. Not trying to be a jerk.

When I first bought my 2015 I would have agreed with you on the drivers seat being uncomfortable. But after 40,000 miles it seems it's getting better with time. Maybe it just takes a long time for them to break in. Which would be especially hard for a passenger seat since they hardly ever get used. But I will say this, My wife HATED my 2011 Tacoma passenger seat. I don't think she has complained at all about my Tundra.

I really like the seats in my 2015 Pro. Both my wife and i feel like these are the most comfortable seats we’ve had in any truck
