    This is definitely some insightful old dude shit... (no offense @OldGuy03 ), but @GODZILLA I have a serious question for you...

    I"ll preface this w/saying that I'm not trying to make this about religion per se or that I fully understand your faith (and I certainly not trying to question it), but isn't much of the premises of your religious beliefs directly tied to having an open heart and seeking the good in others and trying to find and build a life worth sharing w/someone you love as opposed to living through past experiences and holding folks to unobtainable standards because you've been burned a few times?

    Same. I got invited on a Zambezi trip to row one a few years back. I declined. I could've opted to kayak it but class V & VI possible swims weren't my idea of a good time when crocs and hippos hang out in eddy's below all the rapids.

    Grandmother is being discharged today. To me, this is Deja vu. Same shit happened with my grandfather. I don’t see her being at her care center long before having to come back for the ultimate outcome. I can’t get my hopes up again. Didn’t do any good last time (I broke a table) and it won’t do any good this time.

    Idk what to do. She wants a service in NY (where she’s from). lm going to book one when everyone else comes in so I can see all of the family at once and be their shoulder as needed.
    My mind isn’t at work today. I almost told them to leave me alone for a couple of weeks, as I know myself well enough that I can’t focus until this process stops. I’ll just be on cruise control with work for a couple of weeks

    It's always hard to know when to go. If it were me I'd go and see her so I could say my goodbye and likely not see everyone else in turn.

    The "Will to Live" is one of our most powerful tools ;

    When my dad took sick we were told 2-3 days tops... brother & I made arrangements and flew down to be with him.

    As we walked into hospice they said he had perked up.... 3 days later we were told to go back home as he was stronger..

    When we landed at Logan in Boston my phone rang with my Uncle on the line saying My Dad had passed not 10-15 minutes ago...

    He wanted to see his two oldest and "Got called Home" after we safely landed back home..

    Dam I miss him but of course, he did it on his terms...

    You have to make peace with what you know is coming, How that is done is up to you...She will know..... they always do...

    My older sister and BIL are calling all the shots in regards to my Mom. Everything. In this case a good thing. My sis sent me and my siblings an audio clip of my Mom saying hello. Had her hair makeover yesterday. She's hanging on. I know she wants to hit 100 on next Dec 1st. Praying for that!

    I can't tell you what to do. I do have an experience.
    I believe that at this stage, they decide when to go. My dad,who was in home hospice for a while, went downhill pretty quick. On my parent's anniversary he was lucid and talkative, reliving memories. The next day he was out again and gone in a week.
    My FIL was on his way out at 93. He was in a nursing home. My wife and SIL were trying to get him into home hospice but couldn't crack the medicare code. His PCP came in to see him and gave him a diagnosis of failure to thrive. That got the hospice approved on a Monday. Tuesday they moved him into our house. 24 hours later he was gone.
    I think you should go see her every chance you can. Let her decide when to go. But, whatever you do, don't beat yourself up later. 98 years is a helluva run.

    I know we decide. My FIL had been in bad shape for years - worked in the oil industry and just destroyed his body, then a series of TIAs and falls, and he was bed-ridden. His wife - bless her heart - wouldn't go to see him in hospice to comfort him. My SIL lives near, and would see him most days, but he had really lost most of his will to live. He had one final TIA and it took his arms away from him. My wife called and talked with him for a couple of hours as soon as he could talk, and my SIL went to see him for several hours and said they had good conversation and even some laughs. He slipped away in the night. That was almost a year ago. Sweet man, and everyone who knew him was better for it.
