What do you like about your Gen 3?

With all the constant threads on the engine issue now that Toyota has said something is just making me stressed out. I already bought the truck and I'm not about to take a hit and trade it in upside down on something else..

I've only had it a couple weeks and despite it's flaws I'm kinda digging it. Maybe it's cuz I got a pretty good deal. 2022 SR5-Double Cab 6.5ft Bed with 34k miles for $36k. I added the warranty until 100k miles because the dealer lowered the price on it quite a bit.

Issues I've had so far but kinda expected it coming into this as I did my research first:

• Windows whistled at certain speeds. (Added some foam behind the seals and that went away.)
• Couldn't hear my Turbos. (I like the noises. Removed the sound deadening from the air boxes.)
• Sticker said I had a 32 Gallon tank and I was kinda bummed to find out later I only had the 22 gallon. No the end of the world but it'd be nice to have the 32. Doesn't look like a hard swap if it bothers me enough I might look into it.
• The mirrors whistle at certain speeds. Added some foam behind the pivot and that went away.

But now, shit that I'm stoked about! I came from a Camaro so very different beast.

• It's still got some giddy up. I expected it to be slow as I had a 4Runner before and that thing couldn't pass a frozen slug.
• Comfy. I have the basic of basic seats and it's still comfortable to me.
• Space, OMG I have so much room for activities.
• It's a Toyota. Which I'll admit I drank the Kool-aid years ago. But I saw how they treated the frames for first gens. So I expect everyone freaking out will get something cool.
  
• 4x4. It's my first 4x4 truck. My first Tundra (2011) was a 2WD. Kinda the only thing I didn't like about it.
• Looks sick. Mine is all murdered out and I love how it looks.
• The base SR5 still has Android Auto, Lane assist steering, adaptive cruise control. Basically drives itself when I'm barely conscious in the mornings.
• In general has a lot of cool tech. Remote Start was something I was not expecting at this trim for example.
  
• The mods Toyota's and Jeeps just have more mods than everyone else. Especially Jeeps but Toyota rigs have some cool shit available and always have.

Anyway. Tell me why you like your Tundra?

Lets not let this turn into another Gen 2/2.5 is better circle jerk please. I'm over it. Just let me cope damn it.

Sounds like you got a good deal truck looks like $50k and makes you happy congrats! I like mine too...all I changed was the wheels to TRD Pro.

 

I'm so glad you posted this thread. I too am a new Tundra owner ('24 Platinum) and although it is not part of the upcoming recall (yet) I too am in it for the long haul.

Fingers crossed I don't have any issues but only time will tell. Some threads said that Toyota will replace the engines on defective ones and others are suggesting that they'll warranty it to 100k miles or more. Who knows

 

31,000 miles on the Tundra so far without issues. Really like towing our 4900 pound travel trailer with our 2022 Tundra. Also like the non-towing fuel economy on highway trips. As far as the engine recall goes, since I'm out of Toyota free oil changes, going to start having used engine oil analysis done when I change oil to monitor engine wear patterns, at least until Toyota resolves this issue.

Engine Tranny combo is really smooth. Lots of power and torque. Tows very well. CC has a ton of room. SR5 has plenty of little perks I wouldn’t expect on a lower end model, like windshield wiper defrost, the TRD OR package dressing, and so on. Rear window roll down. Apple car play is great! Overall styling, very modern look. People stop and stare. Soft Tex seats are very comfortable. MTS system - I thought at first it was a gimmick, but it’s actually stellar. Fuel economy is completely acceptable for a vehicle of this size. I regularly get over 20 mpg on the highway. Averaging 19, just like they said I would.

 

Are you sure you got the small gas tank? These things have a large reserve of around 6 gallons.

 

AVS and auto load leveling rear are up on the list for me, also the interior of the platinum is super nice

 

I have a 2024 Platinum built in March, bought in April. I love everything about it. It has the factory TRD 3" lift and I have done a few other mods to it. On Friday, I got an ARE Overland topper installed, and I think it's done for now. I need to update my profile picture to show it. The best part is that it's not a RAM, Ford or Chevy.

 

• During the fuel tank fuel line recall fix, the tank has to be removed, might be a good time for a 32 gallon installation. Really like the 32 gallon tank on long trips and for towing!

 

I really like the look of the gen 3 trucks. Quite a bit more so than the previous gens. Some of the amenities I really like are the digital gauges, panoramic roof, digital rearview mirror, and the panoramic view monitor. It's great for my parking ocd. Though, one of my favorites is probably the fact that the entire cab window rolls down. Very helpful for hauling certain things.

of course the window that rolls down in the back rules the earth always loved that , Toyota better not ever take that away in future gen’s either

you get a breeze that just can’t be beat with the sun roof open back window down and everything else close that can’t be beat , and it’s still quiet inside !

the camera 360 system is awesome on the huge screen , I used it yesterday backing down a really tight row at Menards to load sandbags and mulch bags , then it auto leveled after loading , awesome stuff !!

 

The rear air suspension is one feature I don't have that I kinda wish I did. Seems pretty awesome.

This is me everymorning before going to work, nice days roll all the windows down and its awsome! Couldn't do that in my f150 was like a broken air hose in the cab!
Adaptive cruise control is awsome too.
Can't wait to tow!! Last truck would pull great but not as stable.

 

I purchased mine a week ago, 2022 Limited with an 6’5” bed and the coolest feature I like is when you put it in reverse the door mirrors tilt down a bit to see the rear tires. The only feature I wish I had was the camera system to see all around the truck. But overall I am really pleased with it.

 

I think the AVS/air bag is a good test for the owner trade off of complexity vs benefit. The magnetic valved shocks are no doubt but more complicated as are the air bags. My truck has AVS and I absolutely love it. Like you, I use the lower function all the time. A much better feature that I knew when I bought it. Do I have to have it? No. Would I buy it again? Heck yea.

 

Ya it’s great , worth it imo , it’s not a new system for Toyota either , it’s well tested

i wasn’t buying without it , I passed on another allocation at that time that didn’t have it and waited for this one since it had everything I wanted , power running boards as well

those I like way more than I thought I would and super nice for the wife and kids climbing in

 

You're smarter than I was. I didn't fully understand what I was getting let alone think it would work so well.

 

I wish my truck would have been spec’d with the AVS. Was very hard to find a 6.5 foot bed with it though, so I just said forget about it and bought what I bought. Love the truck regardless and is more solid than my pervious Tacomas and tech and power are way ahead of the Tacomas as well. Plus long bed and crewmax are long but very convenient with space both in cab and in the bed

you would have had to gone up a trim as well, it’s only on platinum/1794 and then the top trim capstone

 

Yea I would have spent the extra coin no issue. I just couldn’t find anything in my state at the time with a 6.5 foot bed in a higher trim. They did have a 1794 with the off road package that I almost jumped on but it was a short bed so I decided to pass.

 

You’ve gotta love the looks and off-road capability. The camera system is awesome once you get a good feel for the angles. Limits how often you need a spotter when you’re off the beaten path.

 

I'm legitimately not sure but when I'm full topped off I see my range as only 300-ish miles. Which would math out correctly if I'm averaging 18 mpg with a 4 gallon reserve.

 

I like mostly everything except for a lot of hard plastic in my Pro. But then again my 18’ platinum also had a lot of hard plastic.

 

Interesting. Does seem like it's the smaller tank. Mine said 400+ last fill up.

 

I wish my 23’ had the 38 gallon tank my 18’ had.

 

that would be a super long range lol

I have to piss long before I can run this thing past needing fuel with the 32 and the better mpg it gets vs my 2016
