I thought I would drop this here. '06 DC SR5 with the 4.7. My JBL driver's side door grill looked pretty crappy with mild rust staining along the top edge and a few spots across the middle. Small thing, but it was bugging me because I'm anal and the rest of the interior is in great condition. I also had some pretty good rust going on the front seat brackets, especially the left one, that I wanted to take care of. Then last week I noticed that if I closed the driver's door with the window anywhere but full up, it sounded like glass on metal and a future broken window coming soon. So yesterday I pulled the door panel to see what was what, and immediately saw the rear bolt for the window regulator was no longer in the hole! Lucky me, it was still inside the bottom of the door, so easy fix.

While I had the door panel off, I pulled the speaker grill and lightly hit the rusty spots with Rust-oleum Spray Rust Reformer. Great stuff if you never used it. Now I needed to find a paint match. Rust-Oleum 2X Ultra Cover in Satin Charcoal Gray is darn near a perfect match for the gray interior. Mask off the JBL badge and give it a light coat, job 2 done!

Now that the door looked new again, I knew the ugly rusty seat brackets were next. 4 bolts and 2 plugs to remove the seat. 3 bolts were easy to get out, but I found out the hard way that the driver's side rear bolt is open to the bottom of the truck. I thought maybe someone had cross threaded it because I needed a 16" bar to get it loose. Once it was out, I saw how rusted it got from being exposed underneath. I coated it with marine grease before I put it back in. If there's a next time, I'll shoot it with some penetrant first. The brackets sanded down fairly easy, and I painted them with the Rust Reformer, followed by a topcoat with satin black the next day. Odd how rusty the seat brackets got. They were rusty like they had been outside the truck! Is this a normal thing? It took heavy working with my vac and some Simple Green and a lot of scrubbing just to get the rust marks off the carpet. I guess that's the cost of trucks in the northeast with the salt. Looks great now. I like this truck a lot.

Sorry, I wasn't smart enough to do that. I did think about it after I was all done though! :D
