Hello, this knock tick tap whatever has gotten bad over the past 1 year. It started last year every blue moon nows it's always after a typical drive once it reaches proper operating temperature. Truck has 135k miles on it with oil changes every 5k miles since new. Switched to 5w30 around 95k miles. I want to say timing chain tensioner however it mostly happens when the truck is fully warm up and outside temperature does not matter. On very cold days below 0 I do hear a quick timing chain rattle sound but that's gone in 2 seconds. It does sound to follow the revs up to 2.5k rpm before going away. Video does not do it justice it's about 2x as loud as the video. It'll knock for 15 seconds or so then go away for a bit and repeat. Any idea? Plan to take it to the dealer soon. Thanks

Could it be an exhaust leak at the head... like exhaust manifolds? Try to get a stethoscope and hunt it's leggings down. If engine related, 5w30 withs typically help but you didn't mention it did anything. Makes me think exhaust manifold-ish...

It starts after the vehicle is up to operating temp, that may tell us that the noise is the result of a sensor activating some component, like an ABS pump, Air pump, etc.. I assume you are not getting a check engine light? Try process of elimination to get in the ballpark. Next time it does it, start by turning off the AC see if it changes, then slip the transmission into neutral see if it changes, then go to sport mode see if it makes a difference, ride the brakes a little, etc... If you have a code reader you can try to view realtime data to see what changes when the noise starts. For what it's worth I had a similar issue with the daughters car, it turned out to be a tool I left under the hood that fell on top of the transmission.

Something is askew...that's not right...normal, maybe but not right...I'd open the valve cover and see...cam chain is off or loose or you have something in there not in the right place dancing around...ugh, sorry mate!

Sounds like valve train noise of some kind. Odd that it does not do that when its cold, only when warmed up. You may be able to isolate the area by using the handle of a long screwdriver as a stethoscope. You may have some sludge that is blocking an oil passage somewhere. Maybe try some marvel mystery oil to see if you can clean out the sludge if there is any.
There is another thread on a similar noise on the forum titled "Timing Chain....." There is some useful information there. You may have a bad VVT solenoid?

It is definitely at cam speed. Sometimes you can listen at the tailpipe to see if its smooth sounding with no dropping. Sometimes a broken valve spring will get louder as they warm up because metal expands. It's probably mechanical if all this time it has not thrown a code

Does sound like valve train ticking. One would think broken valve spring would create valve closure issues and create a misfire that would activate the MIL for misfire codes.

No codes nothing. Drives like normal no rough idle etc just that weird interment sound. I thought it was a timing chain tensioner but it only really does it while fully warm. Most of the time if I shut the truck off and start it afew minutes later it won't do it then it'll come back later on if I start driving. Really tends to do it after a highway drive. I'm taking it to the dealer Thursday. I usually do my own maintenance but don't want to dive too deep into my only mode of transport lol.

You better grease up because they are fixing to break one off in you and your truck might get fixed maybe
