Very late to the discussion but I have been fortunate to visit a number of countries - France, England, Ireland, No. Ireland, Italy, Canada (I'll through it in but somewhat home), Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Antarctica, Falkland Islands, Rwanda, Tanzania (excluding stopovers) - mostly for photography although more in depth visits. There are some beautiful parts of the world and there are some great people but there are also great places to visit in the US/Canada as well. I need to pick up a couple more continents (only 5 of 7 at this point).

Looks like Tucson came in at #55, but our neighbors up in the Center of the Universe came in at 23 and a few of the other cities in the area also scored between the two.

I agree a lot w/this, but there's some places that I still need to venture to. I don't want the touristy shit, but I do want to experience small town culture and folks in certain areas... There's some incredible history, architecture and people throughout the world

I understand where you're coming from here, but just make sure you're not completely closed off if the right one just happens to present itself/herself/himself (fuck I'm not sure what's proper to say anymore; plus it's June now :D)...

Seriously, just don't close yourself off so much that you miss an incredible opportunity w/the right person. Marriage is always work and sacrifice, but when you're with the right one, it's right; it's not about molding or settling or just giving in.... Two people w/common interests and more important common goals and aspirations can be very rewarding and successful

Devil's advocate on this... For the most part, I don't trust people either. I understand and trust dogs far more than people; especially hard, serious dogs that are highly driven and as close to a feral, predatory being as you can get while still being social enough (and some being highly social or highly pack driven) to have a mutually dependent relationship. That being said, it has made my expectations of humans and relationships difficult to tolerate because humans never live up to those expectations and the experiences that I've had w/my dogs....

It's okay to be aloof and suspicious of folks as they enter your life, but again, sometime you come across someone who is truly genuine and only interested in sharing experiences and a better life w/you.

Since you're a dog person, think of it this way... Many dogs are instinctually trusting, some are very defensive and aloof of people based on how they are wired or past experiences. However, almost all of them desire some form of a strong pack affiliation, and if they are willing to put themselves out for the chance of finding the right relationship, maybe it's okay for you to be open to do the same

I need a serious moment here guys. My grandmother (98) has been declining this last week, rapidly. I called her yesterday, and she didn’t know who I was and sounded VERY exhausted.

“Just FYI but my sense is that mom is rapidly declining. I’m with her now and she can’t keep her eyes open. She told me she feels miserable and asked the nurses to transfer her back from the chair to her bed.

She’s in “guarded” condition. They’ll never discharge her in this condition. So if she doesn’t improve she may remain hospitalized until the end.”

I think it’s getting closer :(

I sent a text to my uncle (who’s with her) asking if we should look into travel to say goodbye. Waiting his response.

Unless you hear otherwise or receive information that would leave you feeling like you shouldn't go, I'd make plans to get there immediately; especially if you are close to her at all.

If it ends up being a false alarm... no harm; no foul.

But, if you're correct and you don't go, you may regret not taking the opportunity to say goodbye...

This sucks, and I'm sorry you are having to go through this... :(

I feel like I should go, but it may be multiple trips. I’m waiting on the rest of the immediate family to decide. My uncle (who is the decision maker) said it’s hard to tell. If she miraculously pulls through this, she’ll be discharged but may be right back again. She told me the last month she’s ready to go. I’ll fight for her, but I won’t fight her. She’s 98 years old and deserves to not suffer.
I do believe she’ll do hospice in hospital stay, like my grandfather (RIP) did. They were married for about 60 years before he passed

Now the doctor said she may be discharged in a few days. I do not believe that. They said the same shit with my grandfather and it was up/down, up/down, up/down for a couple of weeks.
