We've had the nicest spring. Temps in the upper 70's or low 80's. A few hot days but then it cooled back off. We're enjoying our coffee outside today. Watching the hummingbirds eat breakfast.




Plenty of rain for my jungle too. My sycamore tree is growing. I think the one tree I couldn't identify last year is a white oak.

 

Same here. Usually get two weeks of spring before hell sets in. We’ve had like a month and a half of spring this year. So nice

 

We are lucky. Being in this giant valley really helps shelter us. The weather has been nice since March. We had several weeks where the HVAC was off and the windows were open. It would get down to 65 inside the house at night. I sleep so good at that temperature.

It's easier to just replace the carb entirely. And almost as cheap as a rebuild kit and your time. Time being the one thing we can't get back

I make my own, call it sweet heat and gone. Ran out of labels, haven't had any made in like 3 years. I should fix that.

Ya know, despite all the rhetoric, I've found my life continues to improve regardless of who is in power. I focus on improving myself and my career. Everything else is just noise by people who only care about staying in office.

The power system in the camper can power my freezers indefinitely as long as I get 6 hours of sun a day. Failing that my work truck has an engine drive welder in the bed that could provide power for as long as I've got fuel. The backup Backup plan is to fire up the 500 gal smoker and preserve everything for the collapse. I will be thriving.

 

Speaking of this shit, I seen a brand new TurdGen on the side of 1604 this morning. Driver was just sitting in the seat with his head down, hood up, 4 ways on and looked so fucking distraught. Almost felt bad for him. Then I remember he willing bought that ugly ass non V8.

Any tips on how to prevent or prolong the inevitable freezer burn with long term storage of meat? I grew up having to eat 6 month old burger patties from the meat freezer but I’m guessing my parents were clueless in preventing it or didn’t care.

 

Fresh meat is a hand full of corn & a ball peen hammer away. I know they'll be tasty because they've been stealing my blackberrries.

Air is the enemy. My processor does a good job with packaging, all whole cuts are wrapped in plastic and then waxed butcher paper. Ground is packaged in 1lb "tubes". Freezer should be kept at 0 or just below.

A vacuum sealer will keep stuff fresh for a long time, but I go through it so fast that it's not necessary.

Humidity plays a role too, but its dry as hell here so I don't ever really think about it.

Vacuum sealer. Should keep shit good for up to 3 years. The stronger the vacuum pump the more air is removed the longer it'll last

 

Also freezer bags do break down over time, and loose the structural integrity. As to why, idk, but it's just something I've noticed. Good quality bags can last up to 3 years. This has been mine and my father's experience with long terming meat in the freezer

 

If your saving it for 3 years you might as well go vegan

 

Well when we collectively put 7 deer in the freezer 6 turkeys, 20 to 30 water foul, an obscene amount of pheasant, grouse and squirrel; along with copious amounts of bass, walleye, northern, perch blue gill, crappie and sun fish, sometimes it hard to eat it all in a year.

And then my uncle usually gives us half an elk and a half of a moose every year as well, when he gets his out of state tags. It's a lot of meat my friend.
