Youtube is really bumming me out. I have a 2024 pro. I love my truck. 11,000 miles without a single issue. However, Youtube seems to be filled with videos that simply degrade the new Tundra. Specifically, the car guy online just posted another video about Tundra engines blowing up. Do you think the problem is really as bad as Youtube publishers make it out to be? Or do the think the problem is being exaggerated? And if this is a real problem, what brand truck would I even trade my Tundra in for? I've only owned Tundras my whole life. Not sure GM, Ford, or Dodge are actually more reliable even now. Any thoughts?

YouTubers are great at making click targets. Similar to the way that scammers use phishing emails. They incite urgency and a sense of worry to get people to click on their content. It's no wonder people start immediately thinking that their truck is now going to blow up and that the new Tundra is just a POS. Sure, there have been failed engines on the new Tundras , but it is still a very small percentage.

just drive your truck and be happy, these YouTubers do anything for clicks , they re barf and re barf the same shit.

has there been some failures, yes, but a really small number out of the hundreds of thousands of tundras sold and on the road.

    boost on :burnrubber:

    Just remember this formula:
    1. YouTubers make their income from ads.
    2. Ad revenue is generated via views & clicks.
    3. Bad news drives more views & clicks than good news.
    4. Thus....bads news = more $$$.
Same for anything really: Cable news. Internet forums. Social media. If these sources are your only measuring stick, then you've got shift your frame of reference.

Also...remember that "bad" is completely subjective. There are people on here that, to them, "bad" meant that they traded in their Tundra because of a cracked seat panel or a creaky center console. While to others, those things are merely minor annoyances that are barely noticeable, and they don't let it bother them.

It's only a vehicle, which in the grand scheme of things is really just a minor thing compared to everything else that could happen (& is happening) in life. If owning that "thing" is going to cause you to worry and have anxiety, then trade it in and move on. You gotta do you and make up your own mind.

YouTube is all about hyperbole and click bait. You'll never see titles like, " My 2024 Tundra drives fine and is problem free with 25,000 miles, and no bearing failures!"

These replies make me feel better. I plan to keep my Tundra for at least 5 or 6 years. And I will be sure to post a Youtube video titled "100,000 miles on my 2024 Tundra and I love it!"

Yes the problem exists. Why and how much, we’ll never likely know. Toyota won’t say because money. They won’t offer a blanket fix because money. The problem likely exists in the first place because money. YouTube is all over this because clicks = money. Clicks usually come from sensationalism. If it’s gonna worry you, dump it and get something else. I personally would just run it. Might buy extended warranty if I planned to keep it, because $30k for a new motor is a lot of, you guessed it, money.

I said this in a pervious post and it rings true. Social media and news are made out to make everything look bad as it drives traffic and brings up revenue. Look at Boeing for instance, sure there are issues with their planes currently, no denying that. You see a headline that says an emergency exit blew off shortly after takeoff. Scary stuff and makes you not want to fly on a Boeing plane. But they didn’t reference in the article the thousands of flights Boeing planes do daily without issue. Are there going to be failures, sure are, happens with everything mechanical. Most of these videos are coming from people that have no real world experience with the platform or engine. Best thing to do is hit “do not recommend this channel anymore” and move on. Watching and reading the horror stories will only make you not enjoy the truck. Just drive and enjoy the truck!

Youtube uses algorithms to promote "recommended" videos based off of your search and watch history. So if you watch a video or two of negative style videos, YT is going to use the algorithm to push more videos of the same style to get you to watch. Just like how FB or IG TT or anything else does. I bet if you started searching the tundras with positive videos and reviews, you'll get different results. Not to mention average joes can make anything on YT and push it.

These guys on YouTube are all doom and gloom. The Car Guy online is making it sound like they're dropping like flies. I've got a 2022 that I purchased in July of 22, so technically I should be terrified because my truck falls in the most likely. For engine failures but I'm not. I've got an extended warranty and if the engine takes a dump it will get fixed. Look at all the GM products out there with the active fuel management issues causing lifter and cam failure not to mention transmission and converter issues. All modern vehicles are crap to some extent.

We have reached the point of vehicles being over complicated for emissions and to overcome distracted drivers killing reliability.

This leaves a vacuum for an innovator to produce simple reliable and less expensive vehicles and the free market will reward the effort.

Of course the look at me crowd will always buy expensive vehicles. The current King being Tesla Cybertruck.

Stop watching youtube haha. My 2023 is exactly one year in my possesion today from 15 miles now up to 12k miles with no issues (knock on wood). You'll find big issues like this, blown out of proportion online all the time, especially with the first year of a new model.

I hate to say it but get ready for all these click bait YouTubers to make a video on the recall saying “I told you so, this motor is garbage. See Toyota even issued a recall.” Only a matter of time

Until this issue among others are resolved especially at what folks are paying for them, it should continue. I won’t be playing Tundra roulette for a bad motor and you will be affected by it with the depreciation you will see at trade in as folks shy away from buying them used.

No doubt there is engine failures and it’s good that Toyota is acknowledging them. Not a bad thing to discuss it, but what I mean is they will jump the gun with no information other than the recall and try to prove a point. I’m all for pointing out when things are wrong or when something does go wrong, but hopefully they wait for the facts before they pump out some garbage video

    Nope.

Don't be bitter that you have the early adopter blues. If not now but when you trade it in later.

I do want Toyota to fix the issues as they would be the only brand I would consider paying these high prices for when they get back to being the best long term producer.
