I have a 2019 Tundra XP with original Rockstar XD wheels with Goodyear UltraTerrain AT 275/55/R20 tires. I've had the truck since February. I've had two Toyota dealerships, and one independent tire company that I trust that was the only one that could balance the tires on my 2017 Tundra. All three have rotated and balanced.

As soon as I hit 65 mph, I get a really significant shaking of the steering wheel. It is very smooth until I hit 65 mph+. Tires are fairly new - I don't know when or how many miles as I purchased in February. Rear shocks were replaced when truck was traded, and a 4 wheel alignment was also done. I've put 5k miles on it.

    Any ideas?

Probably the tires. Did they road force balance the tires? Have you tried rotating the tires to see if the vibration moves to the back?

I can balance a 10 ply tire that's 3/8" out of round on a standard dynamic balancer with enough wheel weights. As soon as you put it on the truck and drive down the road it will rattle your eyeballs if you go fast enough. If you have an out of round tire there's really nothing you can do besides replace it, but a road force balance will make it as tolerable as possible.

Another thing you can do is jack each corner up and push/pull on the wheels to see if there is any play in your ball joints or tie rods.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure how the dealerships balance them, or my independent guy. I know historically there has been a hub issue when trying to balance Toyota wheels, but these are Rockstar XD Series that came on the truck. So I kind of thought that was not part of the equation. I get the same vibration no matter the location of the tires - front to back, etc. Like I said earlier, I've done 3 tire rotations and balances in basically 3.5 months.

Agree with Tbrandt it’s probably the tires. Before the Tundra I had a Tacoma. New off the lot it had similar symptoms you described >=65mph. Took it back to the dealership and the root cause was the tires out of round. There was a great Toyota technician diagnostic video on YouTube, but unfortunately unable to find it. This video gives a high level explanation. https://youtu.be/1fZbeqhVkX0?si=OpI84uaywRTNfchA

If I find the Toyota video then will post it. Good luck!

When it vibrates at that speed, does it get worse if you tap the brakes? I had this issue on my 2013 shaking at speed and it ended up being the rotors.

Similar issue. Tires are my problem. Bought the truck used with these tires on it. Had em balanced and last rotation the shake came back much harder. Took em to get balanced again. Tires are cupped. Once I get a chance, I’ll get some new tires when it annoys me enough.

A little update. The Toyota dealer said I needed 4 new tires, with 2 of them causing the vibration. Yes, they did the road force as well as an independent guy I've been using that I'm confident in. A little humor...when I said I'll buy the 4 tires and when the vibration is still there will you pay me for the new tires? They didn't want to agree to that, but in fairness my dealer didn't charge me for the recheck/balancing. I'm going to ride these out a while since they are very new. Not sure I can warranty them since I wasn't the original purchaser, but I'm going to look into that as well with Goodyear.

4Runner is notorious for steering wheel shake at around 60mph.
Tire balance has a real sweet spot to address it.

I Hope you get fixed. Had the shimmy. Annoying..Different tire brand took care of mine.

I would also add to check if those XD wheels are the correct part number for your truck. Hub centric wheels or do they have the plastic spacers?

Not sure on that, but I do know that they came on the XP package from Toyota. Thanks.
