2024 Tundra dash warning and malfunction notices!

Greetings, I searched but cannot locate the exact problem I just encountered with my 2024 Tundra.

I noticed a bundle of warnings and alarms just a few moments ago when attempting to use the cruise control:

trailer brake error
blind spot manlf
rear cross traffic warning manlf
brake override manlf
drive start control manlf
pre-collision manlf
secondary collision manlf
parking support brake manlf

And perhaps a few more I missed. The truck has 7K miles on it. I've had Toyotas for the last 40 years. As one can assume I'm a bit put off.

The car is under warranty, I have an appointment with the dealer, but I'm curious if others have had this issue and what the final repair was.

Any insight would be appreciated!

 

I did pull off the road and restarted. Still have the same umpteen alerts. I counted a total of 10 alerts on my app. In fact I've restarted a few times and each time the alerts come back. The car seems to drive fine, they can't get me in for service until next week.

Well, it seems everyone here is as stumped as I am and the dealer for that matter. If I could go back and return it, get the old truck back I'd seriously consider it.
I've had toyotas for over 40 years. Not impressed so far with the 2024. It's sad to research lemon laws after a month of ownership. Seems they have 4 tries in 90 days to fix it. Then that's it.

 

Twice the Station Attendants in OR didn’t get my gas cap tight and all those same warnings come up. FOR A LOOSE CAP. Even worse, cruise control is locked out until the loose cap code is cleared. That was in the middle of a 1200 mi trip. Ugg (I carry my OBD scanner/reset tool 24/7 now)

 

That's a great idea. So today I took my scanner out and plugged it in. My tundra is so hosed up the scanner can't even link up. Wtf. Update: I finally located the fuse box on the rider's side ( no help from the owner's manual). The 7.5 fuse for the OBD is good. No idea why the scanner won't connect. Another job for the dealer to solve.

 

What kind of scan tool are you using? Maybe try something more modern?

I haven’t dug deep into how the Tundra CAN is configured but a single fault will throw multiple codes on the dash and disable multiple systems . It’s a little frustrating for sure. If you can scan individual modules you should be able to track down the problem fairly easily.

 

I thought it was my scanner tool. Went down to a parts store and tried both of theirs. No dice. I'll just add it to the list of things to fix. I've got a radio knob that fell off too. Minor, but I'm going to toss that to them to replace. No way this vehicle will give me the service my other toyotas have.

 

Did you try disconnecting the battery for a couple hours? Not saying it definitely would be helpful, but if it even resets the computer and allows you to connect your OBD tool, it’s worth a shot.

Good idea, but I'm done. I want the dealer to see it in it's completely screwed up condition.

What exactly is the issue with the radio knobs on these? I've seen several people complaining about it coming off/needing to be replaced. Genuinely curious. (I'm sure it's simply the fact that it's a 3rd gen radio and not a 2/2.5.)

 

You see, we 2nd gen owners have assembled an elite team connected nationally by highly secure internet channels (ok, it’s just a group PM on the forum) to coordinate attacks on 3rd genners. We sneak our top secret operators into the driveways and garages of 3rd gen owners at night and loosen parts of the interior. A favorite target is a radio knob. The truth is, no one has legit issues with it.

People that have had issues with the radio knob are all related to Wreck it Ralph......

from your description it sounds like an electrical or emissions component has failed
The fact that you can't connect to the OBD2 port further suggests an electrical issue

Several years back on my gen2 taco, the mass airflow sensor (MAF) failed, caused CEL, & disabled my cruise control, but I was able to continue driving (nearly 200 miles) until I replaced the MAF

 

The dealer called me and filled me in yesterday. Seems a speed sensor wire got detached from the right rear wheel.
Aa far as the obdii goes. I've tried mine on the loaner and it won't connect either. Two others at a local parts house don't work as well. There's something fishy about the 2024s and a obd2 scanner.

 

Mine is a 2023 but Carista and Scangauge both connected no issue - I doubt there would be a software update for 2024 that would keep a typical OBD2 from connecting (and that might even be illegal)

It does require connecting the plug with a firm hand with the engine off, then cycling the ignition on. Just plugging it in with the ignition already on may not work.

Sorry OP but I suspect operator error.

 

Actually I've used a scanner for a number if years. In this case it won't connect. Doesn't matter if the car is running, or off when the obd2 is inserted. Add to that it's not just my scanner that won't connect. There is definitely something wrong with the software on the scanners or the tundra that won't allow a link. As I indicated it's not just my truck, but also the loaner.

I had no issue connecting my carista to my 2024 to check codes. I did have an issue once connecting a OBD2 scanner to my wife's car. Discovered the dealer we bought the car from had a inventory tracker device that connects to the obd2 and prevented my scanner from connecting correctly. Had to remove the system to get the OBD2 to connect correctly.

 

That's interesting. So was the tracking device plugged directly into the obd2 slot, or by some other means. .the loaner of course is from the same dealer. I have yet to find anyone that has connected no routine scanner to a 2024. I'm not interested in buying a carosta as I don't want a monthy service charge.

 

You don't have to pay a monthly service charge with Carista. First month is free then you can cancel. Then you can download a different "free" app and use that.

 

What app would you recommend?

 

I have both Car Scanner and OBD Fusion.

 

The original OBD2 port was pushed back under the dash and the tracking device was plugged into it. A second OBD plug came out of the tracking box and was fitted where her original one was located. I might have a pic if i can find it.
