I just recently purchased a new to me 2015 Crewmax SR5 with the TRD 4x4 Off-road Package. The truck has 26k miles on it and its all stock. Prior to buying I spent a lot of time reading reviews about MPG and found virtually all of them indicated the Tundra would get horrible fuel mileage; and as every one knows Toyota's published ratings are consistent with the reviews. I did some math based on the real world reports I was reading and decided I was willing to pay the extra fuel cost over my previous vehicle which was a 2020 Tacoma in favor of the comfort of the Tundra (that Tacoma was just way to small inside to be comfortable). I drive a lot for work but also because I love driving. I put about 25k miles per year on my vehicles. To be fair, I consider myself to be very conservative in my driving style and religiously use cruise control on the interstate. I typically run 5 mph under the limit if the posted speed limit is over 65mph so that I can putt along in the slow lane and let everyone in a hurry pass me. With that in mind, I am now passing the 2,000 mile mark with my truck and could not be happier with the MPG (and everything else about it). So here are the details:

Daily commute - 18.2 MPG combined - 40 miles round trip 1/3 city driving 2/3 interstate; 70 mph on the interstate; city driving is tedious stop and go as I have to work through 20 or so stop lights to get to my office (not stopping at everyone though, except on those unlucky days); several tanks with this drive pattern and all returning the same +\- 0.2 MPG.

Provo, UT to Tremonton, UT - 22.5 MPG @ 65mph and 19.5 MPG @ 70 mph; 232 miles round trip mostly flat with a few small grades; limited traffic, I offset driving hours from rush hour intentionally; I have made this trip twice now, one at 65 mph and one at 70 mph.

Provo, UT to St George UT - 17.6 MPG @ 80 mph; 518 miles round trip; several steep grades through mountains and I kept it at 80 mph going up the hills; loaded with 800lbs of people and gear, no trailer.

Trailer test tow around the county - 16 mpg @ 65 mph; 50 miles relatively flat; 3000 lbs overland trailer with absolutely zero aerodynamics, its a brick with all sorts of things attached to it.

All the mpg results are based on the computer not manually calculated. I recognize my driving style isn't typical for most Tundra owners (from my observations) so I thought I would share in the event someone else with a conservative driving style was digging around for MPG data.

Those are good numbers. Ours gets slightly lower but I'm calculating by hand and it's mostly my wife driving. I know the numbers would be lower if I drove it most of the time. It's an argument every weekend to see who gets to drive :argue: LOL

I was cringing the entire time my wife drove my truck on the weekend. There's no need to rev this thing up to 4000 rpm and the cruise control is so rough and jerky.

Actually, if you reset the MPG on the computer display at each fill-up, the average MPG accuracy isn't all that far off. I check mine at each fill, and calculate by hand. It's almost always within a couple tenths of a gallon. I average 16.5-17 mixed town/highway on hilly terrain.

    Welcome aboard.

I drove from Kalispell to Yuma a couple time this last year. Cruise set at 74mph for most of the trip. Kalispell to Monida Pass sucks for economy you are going up and down the whole way. Once you are in Idaho its pretty consistent flat with a few grades here or there.

I keep the truck in Tow/Haul and in sport mode so I can keep it in the right gear depending on wind and grade conditions. Hand calculated (which is important) I avg'd 17.9 mpg.....computer said I was at 19.5. I reset it when I left home and again when I reached Yuma. On the way home I avg'd 16.7. But I was cruising along at 80/85 mph...the 5.7 doesnt do bad at constant load, the stop and go kills it. I'm at 103,000 miles too so its broken in for sure by now...

I'm capable of driving 100 miles on the highway in 6th gear. If I use cruise, it shifts down into 5th every 3 minutes. And my wife has the audacity to tell me that cruise control is more efficient.

Mine sits right at 12.7 cruise or not, 55 or 85mph. Does not matter. Towing the rzr is 9 no matter the speed. And I’m only on 34’s.

I use the Rolls-Canardly method when on the highway. Rolls like a scalded ass ape going down the hills, canardly make it back up the other side.

Tundra Trip Computer MPG readout starts out ridiculously high for the amount of gas used before it averages out the mileage. It will show high L/100 or really low MPG. You need to drive for a while to even out.
Short trips are killers for showing low mileage.
You will have far less MPG anxiety if you (on the center display) toggle over to meter settings.
Select Driver Info 1. and then set mileage calculator to Total Average.

Means this thread was originally started in 2021 and someone resurrected it from the dead in 2024.

Then again, if someone had created a new thread about mileage, people will say there are 100's of threads about mileage already and why is there another one.

This is the way of the internet.

    Depends on the lubricant manufacturer.

Check the label and count how many signatures are present.
