Year and miles with no major issues - let's hear about 'em

Admit the new prices suck and will only go up from here ! Besides the modest mpg gain///I've captured back more smiles per mile and genuinely get excited and joy each time I get in it.

 

I agree for the most part on prices due to regulations - but the thing is I don’t plan on buying another truck. I drive 13k miles a year - my truck would be under 500,000 miles if I drive it through my life expectancy.

My dad died in 2017 owning the F250 he bought in 1974. 390 4 spd with a granny gear.

 

agreed, way more comfortable and a joy to drive and towing is super nice ,

like I said I’m not really a mpg dude never really cared all that much hell I owed 2 5.7s , the 16 was just a special pig , lol.

That said I’m not going to complain about getting 6 more mpg on the highway.

if Toyota put the 6.2i force in the tundra like I wanted , I would have bought that too, don’t give a shit what the rating is, but the extra is nice

the low end torque and boost is really nice on the on ramps and passing , it barely revs and you surge forward nice and smooth.

it’s cool to flick the AVS knob into sport + for the on ramps and the suspension tightens up, steering , trans logic changes etc and boost spools super fast, it’s fun

 

2000 4.7 Limited Access Cab 4x2 - purchased new, 190,000 miles, only basic maintenance. No issues

2020 5.7 Limited CrewMax 4x4 - 30,000 miles, only basic maintenance, 0 issues.

2030 - I’ll buy my 3rd Tundra if this current gen has proven itself and the bugs are worked out.

 

2022 - 40k miles. No major issues.

Wind noise
Brake squeal
Recalls

 

Strangely enough, I didn’t say anything about lasting 200-300k miles. That’s just more of the Toyota cult mindset that EVERY Toyota will last 200k-300k minimum problem free or it’s a lemon.

 

2019 , 36k no issues , even has the original battery . lol

 

I know it’s weird when you show up to a Toyota forum with your Raptor avatar and are confused when users have a “Toyota cult” mindset and expect vehicles to last. When vehicles show signs of not lasting, like trim falling off, spinning bearings, clanking transmissions, etc - people might consider it an inferior product sold at a premium price.

What would you call a brand new vehicle that needs an engine or transmission if not a lemon?

 

I didn't know I drove a lemon, best lemon I've ever had. Oh by the way peps over at the raptor forum blow their trucks up as well.

 

2020 SR5 TRD Off-road 4x4. 125k miles. Many oil changes and 2 total fluid changes. I'm thinking it may be time for brakes due to the shaking when they get hot. Maybe I can torque the wheels a few times after driving to straighten that out. I use it for hauling a 3 horse trailer with a full kit in it. Ie, 200 watt solar panels, 400 ah battery bank, California Air compressor, Iceco 45 qt fridge, 15 gallon water tank, Joolca nomad kit with shower tent and the kitchen sink, k cup coffee maker, and a microwave. So maybe 1500 in the bed and 7000 on the trailer, most of it life. It has the park light recall, but a haven't had a chance to bring it in.

 

1500 the bed and 7k trailer (10-15% tongue ) at once? Wow

 

2022 Capstone with 55k . Had the bed cover and gas tank service Runs pretty strong with half of the miles on 37" tires. Recently went back to 35" due to towing season starting again.

 

EVERY Toyota? Not the Tercel. Look at this junk heap, the sole Toyota model that lives below the industry reliability average:

2023 SR 2nd with 43k miles minor problems:
-wind noise, better with additional door seal still more than “normal”, dealer was worthless in troubleshooting it.
-both front doors have speaker rattle at mid volumes and higher, if you put you arm or knee again the panel the noise goes away.
-start stop is a little wonky if you quickly stop and put vehicle into park.
-Driver side seat bottom fabric fits a little loose has been that way since new.
-TPMS has given me an error a few times in the last week assuming a battery is getting weak in one of the sensors.
-hood and front bumper/fender gaps are a little meh, not as bad as some I’ve seen but not perfect either.
-rear brakes squeak anytime I park overnight and back up.

Again these are all small nuances, not major driveline problems or anything. I’ve changed the oil every 6k myself since new. Powertrain has been flawless. Fuel economy in town is spot on with EPA 18mpg. Highway is only true if I drive gently 60mph (24 mpg). Driving 80mph on the interstate I get 20mpg.

 

The variable venturi carburetor circa 1987ish was the death of the Tercel. Previous to that it wasn't too bad for an econo box.

 

I am surprised the LC is only a 92. Of course, 92 is still an outstanding rating but shocked it's lower than Venza

 

I think you gotta consider how each is used. Venza never leaves pavement. People load up their LCs, then hook up a 6k trailer and head out into the woods.

 

Great point. I would bet the Venza rarely sees 3k rpms haha.

 

1.5 years, 17,500 miles, nothing but recalls. No squealing brakes, no chunks of main bearings in the oil. LOL. Ask me again in 5 years, which is about when this thing will just about be getting broken in.

 

I was driving out to a site this AM and thinking about how little I think about the tundra. I think the infotainment is 8 out of 10 but I've gotten used to it. Maybe it will improve OTA? The transmission, motor and AVS are working seamlessly. No wind noise or issues others have. it's a low drama vehicle that's easy to live with. From me, that's high praise. Really good dealer which is a rarity. If I had it to do over I'd buy another.

 

2023 Limited crewmax TRD with 12,169 miles. Zero issues (no wind noise, rattles, dash lights, etc, etc). Absolutely love this truck. Have towed a few trailers including a 26’ RV about 600 miles. My third Tundra and by far my favorite.

Also still in the stable, 2000 SR5 TRD access cab 340,000 miles. Suspension and brakes are all new by now of course. Original starter motor went out around 300k. No other issues. Also love this truck. A close second place to the 2023.

2015 SR5 TRD crewmax. Sold at 40k. Ran great but didn’t love it.

Also still have a 2003 Sequoia at 212k, no issues other than rack and pinion replacement and new shocks around 150k. 2021 4Runner at 40k. No issues, this car is bullet proof.

I buy Toyotas for a reason and don’t expect anything less from my 3rd gen Tundra.

 

Yesterday I passed 40k. I picked up my Limited Crewmax 6.5 TRD OR Premium in January of 23'. I do occasionally have a little front brake squeal (seems to be when first driving after it has sat for a day). I have no discernable wind noise, no throttle hesitation and haven't noticed anything else to be concerned about. I've been changing the oil every 5k, and have bombed through a few feet of snow in the Idaho winters, and explored many miles of the finest wash board roads that the forest service has to offer. I've also towed a 30' travel trailer that was probably around 8500 lbs. No issues accelerating with the trailer, but I believe I'd want airbags if I were to do it more often. I do not do any rock crawling or mudding in my truck. Most of the miles were from highway commuting for work (territory sales). Overall, I absolutely love this truck.

Edit: The brake squeal is probably just brake dust and does not occur until I'm actually pressing the brake, so I may not have the issue mentioned elsewhere on the forums.

 

2023 TRD Pro. Only 11k miles. No issues except the recalls that were done.

 

2022 limited TRD off road 45k+ and counting loves to do 100 mph in some cases, lol.

 

2022 tundra limited did fuel line recall software updates trans software updates 14,000 miles runs like a scalded dog. i force hybrid. It will smoke the v8 's any day.very impressed learning more about it every day. Very safe machine and my girl thinks my truck is sexy!

 

2023 TRD Pro 20K miles no issues.
