Which generation are you asking about? That time frame covers two different gens. Our 2012 has been very reliable. If you can find a 3rd gen with a V6 that's what I'd get.

What's wrong with that? You can't hardly find a reliable used vehicle right now for much less than that. Plus he has to pay the Cali tax.

 

I love my dad’s ‘04 RAV4 for sure.

battery likely is via ~2017 leaf once I buy one. Might drive that for a while though as-is. So not rushing. Lots out there. Tesla pack would be nicer. Flatbed helps as it frees up some access to between the frame rails. Gotta see how it shapes out as far as where to put stuff. Full EV is different from custom hybrid. Definitely want the batteries low and protected.

 

Why? For engine off camping?

 

Anybody have some Deaver leaf spring knowledge? New uninstalled set on the local FB marketplace C27HD. Can't find much about them online. They are probably overkill for my build, but figured I would do a little research just in case.

$1000 buckaroos, but being local and such a specific part I'm guessing the guy is planning on negotiating some.

That's what I run. As long as you don't mind a lot of rake when you're not weighed down by gear in the bed... *or* if you keep your truck weighed down all the time, this is the best you can get.

You may want to check pricing through Deaver before you start negotiating. These had gotten really expensive last time I checked... and the extreme arch is something not easy to get done... due to OSHA rules about moving hit metal around... something like that. You may find this to me a damned good price. Not saying you shouldn't try; only that you may not want to lose the option.

 

Just swapped a 7 year old battery with
A 2017 sticker on it that was getting weaker while alt was measuring good output ... but wasn't able to revive with a jump recently after driving daily then starting one morning and driving about 30 mins then shutting off. Swapped in an Interstate 27F from Costco for $109.99. BTW found

I'm loaded with the Camper 99.9% of the time . Between that and all my gear for an extended trip I'm somewhere around +1000 to +1200 lbs.

My original plan was to go with a cheaper aftermarket spring and use airbags to set ride height and quality, but Im taking this as a sign to reevaluate.

I'll call Deaver before I break the guys balls on pricing.

Honeslty I’m not particular to either generation, my price range covers both of them more or less varying on mileage.
The market has dipped a bit here recently, that and there are 1000 of rav4s around. Luckily the Cali Toyota tax isn’t as bad as our tundras and Tacomas . Anything mechanically I should look for when looking at 3rd Gen V6s? I’m currently in the research stage so the more info the better

What, Nick? You're looking to swap to a later gen 6cylinder? Why?

Remember the later gens are heavier, so if you go from a smaller truck with 8 cylinders, I expect you miss what you have now.

 

Not me, my girl friend. Helping her buy her first car and she likes older Rav4s.

 

We actually have the 4 banger but I sometimes wish we got the V6. The only issues I've heard of is oil sludge if someone didn't change the oil. I would just look for one that has a good maintenance history. In 12 years I've replaced the upper radiator hose and the shocks. I've got new ball joints, tie rods and control arms waiting to be installed.

 

Done. Runs great no codes. Had to swap the fuel rails in from the old motor.

Probably so, but @ 550+ torque, it was a beast.

 

because Daveeasa mentioned EV, but all the used details were hybrid. The hybrid pack I suggested has less restrictions to engineer around than an EV whole vehicle battery pack/tray, and his use details make an EV pack overkill & detrimental to the build intention.

Hybrid or straight gas for road trips but prolly leave the tank at 1/4 or less on ethanol free if I establish the FWD hybrid for in town. Really hopping it makes an ICE w supercharger feel slow. Short trips too. Local use where oil never gets hot & condensation builds up. Granny to church Sunday & beauty shop on Wednesday in this case is a bad thing.

Got started on the RAV4 stereo today and woe is me, f’ing JBL. So my pre-crimp of the stock connectors is a total loss. Grrr. And I don’t have the adapter kit I need either. Grrr. And I’m on Oahu and shipping stuff here is slow. Oh well.

as to EV, when I say hybrid I don’t mean like Toyota does. I mean dumping ev to front axle and gas to rear and getting the balance right. Most of what my bro in law does is full ev and I believe he always uses a legit pack. Not that the leaf pack is legit but the Prius one won’t it without a system to continually recharge. Definitely want around 50 mile range.

 

I want a Rav4 Prime. Plenty of EV range for my daily drive and its looks coo.

I read about that, sounds like its specific to the 4 cylinder for 06 - 08. Oil sludge and burning oil on that engine oof.
