    Hey guys,

im looking into an intermittent rattling at the back of my truck and I noticed that, when the tailgate is fully open, the right support cable is taut where’s the left is on slack. Is this normal?

All my trucks have been the same so I say normal. Don't forget if you have the easy lift tailgate the tension is only on one side so maybe that has something to do with it also.

Mine are about the same tension on both sides. The rattle could be the right side of tailgate. It has been discussed in several threads. The design of tailgate hinge is partially open so you can remove the tailgate. Unfortunately it rattles over certain kinds of bumps. Some guys put a zip tie around the hinge on tailgate to hold it in place and stop the rattle.

An o-ring (1/2”) behind the attachment catch ring (at the top of the cable) to help quell that rattle point. Hose clamp on the pivot point, or heavy duty zip tie.

Appreciate all the input fellas. I’ll be adding the 1/2” o ring at the attachment point of the cable. If that doesn’t do it then I’ll be looking at getting a zip tie at the hinges of the tailgate.

this is why in love this community!
