2007 tow mirror on 1st gen

So I know people have put the big old dodge fold out mirrors on the tacoma's and some tundras but I'm curious if anyone has tried to use the 2007-2018 tundra tow mirrors with any success. From looking at them they don't appear to be much of a design difference from the plastic triangle that sits against the door. I'm assuming a new mounting hole or two would have to be drilled but I would still guess a later model tundra mirror would fit better than a mirror from another manufacturer..

Any one with a broken 2nd gen mirror they wanna send me to mess with???
Really getting annoyed towing a TT with these clip on tiny mirrors and want something better.

 

come on, where all the 1st gen guys at? Or 2nd gen with trash mirrors they wanna send me

 

I want some too if it works out.... I hate those clip on type but I have to use them pulling my camper

Post your location. Maybe someone local will let you come over and turn a couple wrenches to test fit.
It's literally 3 bolts per mirror. I'd let you give it a shot if you were in my driveway.

 

Just did again...swear I edit my profile a few weeks ago and apparently it didn't take. Oh well. I may just go to my local junkyard and see if they have a broken mirror I can buy for cheap to see what I can get to work.

Well like I figured the 07+ setup is quite bigger so without drilling new holes in the door that are too close to the edge anyways I don’t think it’s even worth trying to make work.

 

That larger mirror came off of a sequia. Same head but different base and stud dimensions. Went through that problem when changing driver side mirror. Need to measure yourself to make certain.

 

what makes you think that?

 

reputable body shop. vin will help. think about it. these trucks wer being assembled in at least 3 locations

 

Not sure what you're talking about. I went to a salvage yard and pulled it off a 2008 tundra. The mirror on the right is off my 2006 tundra.

 

From looks of it a 2005-2015 Tacoma tow mirror would be a little closer.

 

I’ve been looking for a while now with no luck,I think the modification would be minimal in terms of this project with 2005-2015 taco trail ridge tow mirrors.

 

May have to take a look at em.

No not that I know of.
It’s a toss between the Tacoma mirrors and the 7+tundra.
Tacoma are a little to small
While the tundra are a little to big

 

I have a brand new set of tow mirrors for 07 and up and they for sure won’t work unless someone trimmed the plastic down and made it look ok. I so wanted them to work but no luck

I have a pair of the Trail Ridge mirrors for a 2005-15 Toyota Tacoma on the way I am going to try to retrofit on my 2000.

 

Even if someone 3D printed or shaved down a big block of plastic to act as a spacer between the mirror and door that would help get the mirror out further....

I got them in. Pulled my drivers side and did a comparison and decided they were a bit too much for my use. The swap itself would been very easy to do. Just need to drill out one bolt hole.

Trail Ridge units are huge. I would end up breaking them pretty quick.

 

I have an '06 Tundra Double Cab. I too want tow mirrors. I took off my passenger side mirror the other day and I think is possible to model and 3D print an extension. The mirror has a pivot joint where it attaches to the mount that then bolts into the door. I believe I would 3D model an extension that fits on top of the pivot join and then extends the mirror, what, 6 inches? When you want to fold the mirrors back for parking they'll rest along the window, just like the originals but 6 inches longer.

Do you think 6 inches is too long or two short?

I'm tempted to go to the junk yard and pull off a mirror to use for the model, unless someone wants to send me one.

 

6" should be MORE than enough

 

I know everybody has their own wants/tastes, but I think for our size trucks, using clip-on/strap-on tow mirrors when you tow, taking them off when you're done, is the easiest "fix".

I can't imagine giant full size mirrors on my truck for daily use. I think this is pretty much exactly what I have, and used with my Tacoma for years. Plan to keep using it on the Tundra.

those are what i've used. And i've used em on 4-5 different vehicles.

 

I've heard the Ram Truck mirror bolt pattern fits our first gen's. I just aquired some Ram mirrors and will try them out soon. Supposedly 2 out of the 3 bolts line up, so I'll try my drivers side mirror first to see feasibility. Then I'll post my findings on here.
