But it is, you have misread. Dealerships charging to program a key/fob after you spend far too much on it in the first place is wrong. Especially given that some people do this because Toyota is dropping the ball.

DID NOT MISS READ - Dealership does not charge for the second fob to program it. I work for Toyota and the second key and programming is OWED. ITS IS A SHAME TWO DO NOT COME WITH SOME TRUCKS/ cars and others do. But no fee to program the owed second fob. If a dealership is charging for the owed second key/fob they are completely wrong.

If you are looking to start a pee pee match, I am not interested. The post mentioned the dealership having them for purchase, which they also charge to program. The post didnt mention it being the second one we all seem to wait for that didnt come with the truck purchase.

No pee pee match. Just stating the facts. You buy a key then yes you pay for programming. Or wait for you OWED key fob and pay nothing. Your call

It comes down to this for me, and this is where I will leave it. If I spend $70k on a truck i know the dealer made plenty on and I decide not to wait on a second fob for my personal reasons, it would be a kind gesture on the dealerships part, especially if I purchased the vehicle there, to wave to the programming fee. I work in a service type role and we will often give a value added repair to clients free of charge because they are just that, great clients who spend money with us. And I am not talking about just a few hundred bucks worth of value added repairs. It goes along way to get more work down the road, just saying.

Or quit jacking your customers around and give them 2 fobs, like every other manufacturer does. Not sure what Toyota’s end game is here, but Ford, GM, and Ram sell way more trucks and all come with 2 fobs. The shortage is over, and has been for a while, why do they continue to play these games?

Purchased '24 Limited December of '23. she went in the shop for rear diff replacement in February '24. I asked about the FOB. Service Advisor checked. Appeared that mine was already delivered to me. After some discussion with Sales and Customer Service, Dealer Service got the FOB from Parts and Sales "paid" for it. Yes, it was OWED, but since Toyota was supposed to pay for the FOB (part), they took care of me. No charge for programming. Yes, the parts department has replacement FOBs for a price.

But in some cases it is the dealership. Example: I got the app notification saying fob was available. Called the dealership who told me they would order it and will call me when it arrived. I waited a month with no call back so I phoned them and their reply was we'll check on it and call you back. Another month goes by with no call back and it's now time for 5k service. While speaking to the service dude on service day, I tell him I'd like my second fob and he tells me they'll have to order one. I began getting a bit angry explaining it's been over 2 months since I was told it was available. He did some checking an lo and behold it's magically there and ready for programming. You cannot say that experience was a factory issue.

I agree with you but….. again not the (dealer)fault but Toyota. In what you are saying then you should have negotiated in the sale of the truck! Not saying it is correct or wrong. And agree with you the second key should be provided at time of sale but it’s not as of now. And here is where is gets a bit F-up. Talk to your dealer and see what they will do or not do. Simple

Im with you on this, especially knowing dealers have stock to sell you one. I had signed all the paperwork when I asked for the key fobs and was informed of the shortage. I am not upset about it, I can wait, but I do find it a bit ridiculous. I have bought owned all makes, still do, Honda, Infiniti, Chevy, Ford, Dodge and I didnt have to to think enough to make sure I was getting two fobs, it was a given. And yes, post covid. Whatever, hopefully they reach out sooner or later.

Well, had my awesome advisor (he really is) at my local/servicing dealer check the status of my second key. Apparently my 2024 is not part of the recall and I should have received 2 FOBs at purchase… He was like you sure you didn’t get two? Ha

I only got one FOB and two hard keys at purchase. Thing is the dealer I bought from got my truck from another local dealer. So my fob probably made it to that first dealer and not the purchasing dealer. Yay.

I called Toyota and my second key fob looks to be available around end of June/first of July (Truck purchased in early March, 02/24 build.) Luckily it can be sent to the dealer close to my house and not the dealer I bought the truck at 90 miles away.

Accounting games and gymnastics. Recall costs are a big cost line item for any car maker. Spread the costs for a large recall across quarters to keep from sinking one quarter financials. Customer satisfaction ranks below profit/loss accounting at pretty much every company.

So they took the profit bump for not expending the costs of key 2 for a qtr for hundreds of thousands of vehicles. They then spread the cost to backfill all those keys for 1 qtr over 3-4 qtrs. The accounting holy Grail.

This is the exact same thing I went through. My Advisor asked me to call Customer Service. They also told me FOB was already delivered to me. I explained several times that I received two keys, but only one FOB. I talked to my sales rep and told him they needed to make it right; I don't care who pays for it, Toyota owes it to me. Got a call a short time later from my Advisor letting me know that he was taking care of it. When I picked up my truck, he provided a second FOB including another key, all programmed and ready to go! Dealer GM approved sales paying for it from their parts department.

Keep on them to make it right. It's not your fault if they lost it at another dealer, that's their problem.

Picked up my 2024 on Jan 27th. This thread got me nervous so I reached out to the dealer and they suggested calling Toyota's brand engagement center number at 800-468-6968. According to them, I am looking to get my 2nd fob by the end of July. That sucks, but at least I know they aren't showing it was already delivered. Sorry for those in that situation.

I bought mine this winter, didnt hear anything from them about the key. About 3 months in (~januaryish) I scheduled my fuel line fix and told them I still needed the key and walked away with it at that time.

What do you mean “part of the recall”? I dont think the 2nd FOB is an actual recall, its just a supply issue supposedly. Am I wrong in thinking its really not a recall?

    Gotcha, thanks.

I am also waiting on a seat bottom for the front passenger seat. One of the vent holes is tore into an adjacent one. Surely not holding my breath on that anytime soon

I just picked up my tundra on Saturday, I didn't know about the key fob shortage. the salesperson gave me two keys, one fob, I was like umm where is the second fob. said it should be here in a few weeks, I will talk to them this week about them pulling one out of the parts, I know they have them, my buddy had to get a replacement for his tundra. dropped it into a puddle and it stopped working. Oddly as my taco's fob has been thru hell and back, I just needed a new case(that fob was submerged, I forgot it in my pocket fording a river/stream chest deep with the dog on my back, normally it goes into a ziploc baggy and a waterproof case).

I called Toyota corporate for the 3rd time yesterday. Got the same run around as the first 2 times. Toyota doesn't care, does no good to call. None of the auto manufacturers care about their customers. They know you have to buy something to drive, so they can continue to get away with treating you like crap.

If I am reading the spreadsheet correctly, you should already have it. I still feel the dealership should be the one responsible for you getting the key in a timely manner. If they want to sell Toyota as an authorized dealer, then they should not get to pass you onto Toyota to search down something that should have came with the vehicle in the first place. Classic consumer middleman syndrome, customer service at its finest…:(

Yes, when I bought my truck, the spreadsheet said mine would come with both. That didn’t happen, obviously. Then the spreadsheet changed and I was told March. That also didn’t happen. Now the spreadsheet says May. We’re 10 days away from June and I can just about guarantee that spreadsheet will change again. Toyota needs to get their sh!t together.

I bought a Tundra on Wednesday May 15th last week. They gave me one key fob. I ask when I would get other one. They said honestly, we don't know. I got home my truck would not lock from door handle. I thought what now. I looked at display behind steering wheel it said key fob inside. So, I started searching, my other key fob was in glove box in envelope.
