Sounds awesome, sign me up. At least sounds like a diety I could actually believe in.

I mean, to their point though, it may be why autism spiked, along with the spike in plastics in our reproductive organs.

I think it's far more sinister than that, and suspect it's modern-age pesticides people are allowed to dump on our food supply that's responsible, but ... ignoring it, and mocking the byproduct seems to be more media-friendly than researching and solving the problem. It'll be the end of us.

Don't forget 90% of research is usually funded by an entity with a vested interest in a certain outcome. The science will always be manipulated by the ones bankrolling the study.

That's where basic data analysis becomes interesting... And it's happening globally, and the numbers react accordingly for countries we have accurate data streams for ... We know it's killing the bees. What's it doing to us?

It's definitely a super convenient excuse. I wonder where it originated? (PR campaign related to Bayer, anyone?)

You think its a coincidence everything is on a spectrum now? My pronouns are who/what, my vehicles have problems, but are better than most of the new stuff, my beer is better than most, but not the best, my dog is the best.

I'm an introvert, but trying to make friends, note my help/helped ratio. Loud crowds & music bug me, but i like loud engines with rhythm. I'm extra observant & capable, but other people baffle me. Smarter and dumber than average.

I think the world moves in ebbs and flows, but to answer your question honestly: I think everyone over 30 created this.

    How?

We've gotten to a place where we wear our identities on our sleeves, we LIVE our identities down to the finest detail and advertise it on everything, our shirts, our bumpers and windows, our houses, our backpacks, our truck toolboxes, you name it. Politics is an obviously huge one, and I blame that for a lot of the division going on today, it's one of many reasons I'm glad political discourse is verboten on the forum.

But how does that tie into this ?

We've slowly worked toward this trend of not asking anyone who/what they are anymore, you must outwardly identify yourself, so others know your stance at a glance, and they'll know ahead of time if they can talk openly with you or not. You must identify, and sometimes even prove. You must put yourself into a box, be a conformist, and define yourself down to the finest detail. Back in the day, like late 1800s/early 1900s, it was as simple as "I'm a farming family", or "I'm a factory laborer", or "I'm a business man" at the adult level. In school, "I'm a jock", "I'm a nerd", maybe "I'm an art/music kid" at the youth/adolescent level.

Political leanings seem like they were a lot more centrist, and simply saying which side you lean was ample, these days we have degrees of severity, although it seems like it's accepted status quo to prepend any label with "radical", even when it's clearly not, and everyone is OK with it. Back then, radicals were few and far between, and people wouldn't call everyone a radical, they'd just shun the radicals or not pull them into the chatter.

Towards mid-century is when I think it changed. Like, maybe when modern conservatism forked off into three legs. Not saying that's what led to what you're referencing, but hear me out. Suddenly it was no longer good enough just to say, "yo, I'm conservative" and everyone just nod and say, "ah, OK, he's one of us, you're cool, let's work together". Suddenly you needed to go a level deeper, are you a fiscal conservative, a social conservative, or a national defense conservative? That way you didn't say something stupid to offend the other dude because you're not on the same page. And not joking on the mid-century fork, if you don't believe me, this was a thing, 3rd paragraph here.

But of course that's just one sample of it happening, one way we've gone about it. As the 20th century came and went, we did it with everything. Music was the worst for me! Suddenly you can't just be a "metal head" as your genre, you had to define an explicit subgenre, "oh I'm a post-punk, melodic metal guy" or "i prefer post-prog Swidish blackened death metal" or similarly silly stupid shit. At my high school, there were two sects of metalheads and they HATED each other because one was more stoner kids who loved heavy metal, and the other was drama kids who were into glam metal. And they'd literally quarrel. I would say they probably had about 35% overlap in their musical preferences, but because they were in different buckets and looked different: Mortal enemies.

This is what we've done in the modern era. Over the course of roughly 100 years now, we've gone from wearing basic clothing, polos and button ups and slacks, and created this mess of having to define and identify yourself into the tiniest bucket possible, with one of two goals: (A) Exhibit your uniqueness to everyone else, and/or (B) make your identity clear to everyone, so others know if you're "alright" or not, maybe how to behave around you. We've essentially force-fragmented everything.

And it's come via an avenue of "flair", to drop some Office Space terminology out there. Like ... bumper stickers. Whoever invented the bumper sticker should've been shot before they made the first one. Special interest t-shirts, whoever decided "hey let's stop wearing round political buttons on election days so we're equal on any other day of the year, and start wearing politically divisive shirts/stickers every day of the year so we put that above all else that's important!", I wish they'd have gotten hit by a bus on their way to make the first shirt. Music Tees sure were super convenient icebreakers to find like-minded people at concerts growing up, but had I known what was coming, ugh. People even go so far as to tattoo their personal leanings on their body, solidifying it in their skin for a lifetime, sort of doesn't leave a lot of room to grow and change, does it? Why stunt or pigeonhole yourself like that, it seems idiotic to me...

I dunno, maybe I'm way off the mark here. But I feel WE (folks over 30, 40) created or at least perpetuated this mess of immense need & pressure to determine who you are and subsequently identify yourself ASAP in life, at the earliest age possible, and it's why we are where we are. 50, 75 years ago, there was only pressure to decide, at some point in high school: Am I athletic? Am I smart? Am I artsy? And you chose your future path based on one of those three things, and hung out with whoever was in your one of those three containers. Nowadays, kids have pressure to define themselves to the annoying heavy metal level I mentioned earlier by the time they're in the 3rd or 4th grade.

tl;dr - We as a people are obsessed with defining who you are because nobody wants to comingle with "different" anymore. The older generations created this mess, and it's laughable to me how upset they get about the problem they helped engineer. We need to bury that nonsense with the currently dying generation and get back to a place where we don't pre-judge everyone, don't pressure anyone to decide who/what they are anymore, and talk to anyone, even if they look/act differently, as if they're a normal human being. Until we do, we'll keep being blatant assholes with this dependency of tribalism and identity.

But you're also wrong. My dog is the best. But yours is pretty cool too.

Bad news, new CEL on the way to work today.
Good news, not obviously O2 sensors as I feared. Instead, P0440 so hoping just the fuel cap (which is brand new but we'll see, maybe I somehow bought 2 of the wrong gas caps for each of the old trucks, that would be hilarious.)

PS - I will say, it's been the one thing we've been teaching that's finally clicked with our two kids as they're rolling into their teens: DO NOT put yourself in a box!! Labels are bullshit, explore everything! You DO NOT need to decide who or what you are today, because if you do, you may actually miss out on your true passion or calling in life, so just go out there and have a bunch of experiences with a bunch of different people and use that as a guide for different paths to explore. If it doesn't fit, that's OK, maybe think about why it doesn't fit, then move on! And don't stop just because something seems like it fits, maybe index that for a return visit later, while you try something else. You're only going to get one time in your life to absolutely freely explore who you are and mostly get away with it.

We really need to get to that place:
    • Where we teach our kids putting yourself into small boxes is suffocating and bad
    • Where it's not important to figure out who you are until you're an adult, and it's OK to be whatever the hell you want to be until then
    • Where (for adults) we stop this bullshit of wearing our identities on our sleeves and trying to force that concept onto everyone else
I think we'd be better off.

Some would argue "To prejudge is the gateway to prejudice". I think gut checking and sizing is fine, as long as it doesn't interrupt how to behave, and doesn't stop you from changing opinions when conflicting evidence shows up.

i'm very nice until given a reason to heckle. Usually traffic. I'll pick a fight with anyone willing to wedge themselves into a line in the passing lane. And the d-bag that let em in. I wont brake check, but you might have to ride beside that truck for a while. Crossovers arent allowed to merge at all. Helps to have OD off.

Calling our resident electricians. My friend bought a new house and the microwave, stove and unfinished basement all on the same circuit. So when the tv and stereo downstairs are on and the popcorn is being popped, it trips the circuit breaker. Since the basement is unfinished I have pretty easy access. Can I just run the downstairs wires to their own circuit breaker? (the panel has open spots). Any other ideas or things I need to watch out for?

Also, since it's a new home is it a problem with the design or am I just running too much off one breaker?

Microwaves pull a decent number of amps, 9-14 or so depending on wattage. Most single circuits are 20amp at most. A dedicated circuit for the microwave is a good idea.

Def a problem. Put the kitchen and basement on seperate circuits. I had to take my porch circuits off the garage circuits because i'm not retarded. A couple days of work is worth it, especially if you add extra outlets.

    * also not a liscensed electrician, but i ran low voltage for 5 years.

so red is + and black is -.

when i bought i had a breaker than was only running 10A. When deciding to repair, i ran the master bath to its own circuit. And added an outlet to the garage door opener, and 3 yard outlets. Might be handy as heaters if we get another long freeze.

So yeah, that MW should be on a dedicated circuit. The stove should be on the kitchen circuit with no other loads served, including unfinished basements. Any unfinished basement area should also be on its own circuit, and have GFCI protection. You need to find where the kitchen circuit ties into the basement circuit and undo the joint there. Run a new 12/2(or 14/2 if that's whats there) to the closest point on that circuit and tie it in. new 20A(or 15A if 14/2) breaker and you're GTG.

Also, yes, that's a problem if that's a new house for the reasons listed above. All those should be dedicated circuits. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
