One approval left to go, and it's somewhat automatic.

I have 8 direct reports in India, and a peer manager has a few as well. India's economy is weird and has had some significant inflation in the past couple of years. My company is like most, and the merit/raise process doesn't really keep up with 'trendy economic fluctuations' like bread suddenly costing 60% more than it did last year, so my India folks' comp has been lagging. Extremely significantly lagging. More recently hired folks make, in some cases, more than twice what my longer-time India teammates make. You can imagine the pull of that problem on the longer-time folks - - they're looking at other places to work. And some of them are stellar at their somewhat complicated jobs.

So using the risk of turnover problem with my management, and their management, I've been working for more than 6 months on getting most of them a market adjustment. I'm just about done. I've got some big raises to hand out next week, but I have two teammates who are outstanding, and I'll be thrilled to tell them we're more than doubling their salaries.

    It's a good day.

Dude, we need somebody like you at our company. The inflation over the last 4 years pretty much negates any raises since almost 2019 for me. It sucks to do well, get a raise, but see absolutely zero standard of living increase and for all the stuff I couldn't afford before to still be out of reach. Most people don't notice it unless it's enough of a pinch to make things harder, but so long as the number for their hourly goes up, they are happy. Then they are all angry that they can't afford the new car, or remodel, or whatever and they blame the "greedy corporations" for increasing prices. They can't see that the bigger number they are getting is worth less than what it would have been 5 or 6 years ago.

The current economy is horrible, and nobody except Billionaires can win. It doesn't look like it'll be getting any better any time soon, either.
If your marketability or job movement options are limited, it's got to be just deflating to get a 2% or 3% raise (mine this year was 3%).

I got 2% each year for the last 4 years. Could have used a guy like you in my corner. All behind me now...

I wish I got 2-3%. Don't get me wrong, in the past when I've jumped job tiers I got better raises, but this year was a 0.92% raise. I am definitely feeling the inflation.

My youngest son is a combat veteran and after returning from Iraq had some pretty bad ptsd. After a few years of counseling, a divorce and loss of the house he was trying to buy, he started recovering. When he told us that he was able to go to Costco without his service dog we KNEW that he was going to be fine!:rofl::rofl:

Whenever I feel like I need to do plumbing work I just put a metal bucket over my head and bang on it with a hammer for a few minutes. Either that urge goes away or I am actually able to proceed thinking like a plumber…

I hope to enjoy it, but I have terrible luck with used vehicles. Hoping that a bulletproof Yamaha can change that.

Also, that is possibly my favorite used car ad ever. I saw it years ago and loved it then. :fistbump:

My love for Discount Tire began in the late ‘70’s when I was framing houses. I got an extra rim for my Datsun pu so I had 2 spares. I took em in with both flat every week for free repair.
    For months.
    They never blinked an eye.

Except now they are so popular you have to make an appointment and sometimes you will still be waiting hours. Used to be you could show up at any random time and be out of there within an hour.
