    So I got my CB and antenna installed this weekend. Right now I have it powered by the 12v cig-lighter plug into the 12v socket. While out and about today, I got my first response to a radio check, so it appears everything is good. Now I want to ditch the 12v plug and wire it to the fuse box. I assume I'll need something like this:
    https://www.autozone.com/electrical...tm-fuse-tap/32416_0_0?searchText=in line fuse
    My question is this: what is a good fuse to tap into? I'm looking for a fuse that only receives power while the vehicle is on. Because I am not immune to the occasional brain fart and don't want to drain my battery because I forgot to turn the CB off before exiting. The power wire that came with the CB already has in inline fuse if that makes a difference. Also, where is a good ground point near the fuse box?

    (I posted this in the 1st Gen section, rather than the electronics or audio/video sections because I believe my inquiry is specific to 1st Gen fuse boxes)

    Imma keep it stock
    Without look at a fuse box, I can’t suggest a particular fuse. As far as the ground, all the grounds are located right behind the drivers kick panel. You’ll see a ton of white with black stripe wires together. Those are all grounds. A voltmeter is good for finding a circuit that gets power on in acc/run position

    Note that add-a-fuse kits need to be installed on the correct side of the circuit also. Any device you throw on one of those needs to be on the back side of the circuit, so the fuse actually blows when it should, instead of melting down everything upstream.

    But honestly, CBs suck a lot of power, you should really put it on its own dedicated circuit, I'd probably aim for 12awg, and you need to fuse it within 12" of the battery.

    The fuse hatch cover has the fuses listed. The ACC 15 amp fuse should be switched through the ignition.

    A stock CB is 4 watts output, per FCC regulations. The 15 amp ACC fuse is fine. Generally all stock CB's are protected with 3 amp fuses and that still leaves a lot of headroom even at full TX.

    My question is;
    Is it a stock CB radio or a 10-meter conversion?
    Converted 10 meter radios suck more amps than a 4-watt citizens band radio.

    Back in the day when I ran a CB, we used 10-meter converted radios.
    Galaxys, Presidents, Strykers, etc...
    Most had a small internal linear that sucked up a good amount of juice..

    We had them on boards since we would go from tractor to tractor sometimes daily..

    The radio is stock, no mods done to it. Its a Cobra Mini-19 AM/FM.

    Use the ACC fuse. If you check the manual for the Cobra, you'll see the current draw, the 15 amp ACC fuse will be a good spot if you want it switched through the ignition. It may pick up more interference than running a dedicated power lead directly from the battery.
