Keep it. Upgrade the stereo, and get it detailed.

All that dealer/financing/upselling/warranty back-and-forth “we can’t recreate the problem” crap? Enjoy that from the sidelines like the rest of us with paid off trucks that will last forever.

 

Don't trade in...
1. If you really want to have new gadgets, upgrade your stereo, speakers, not so expensive, specifically for Toyotas, it's very affordable to upgrade.

2. 26k miles for tundra, haven't you heard of few tundra having 1M+ miles...

3. Keep it, and if you can afford it, buy new one, just for the new gadgets....

4. Trade in will give you very low price, sell it your self to third party, in person. Or evaluate 2-3 places for the fare market value, trucks are in very high demand, specially Toyotas, get the fare market value.

I have owned
1995 Avalon, 139+k miles, 15+ year, single owner.
2009 Corolla, 136k miles, 15 year, single owner, gifted to our teen Niece, still in family.
Currently owed
2010 Corolla, 159k miles, 2nd owner, Japan model,
2008 Sienna, 119k miles, 9+ year owned, Japan model.

Next would be a Tacoma, and Highlander for sure.

Bro. I'm driving an '05 with 133k on the clock for the very reason you speak of, a track record of reliability. I've thought about upgrading to a newer truck on several occasions over the last few years because of how much more space and creature comforts the newer trucks offer, even your truck would be a nice upgrade. Usually when I begin to feel the bug and start window shopping, I spend a few months thinking over the financials and have to admit that the nice bling really is not worth $40-50k. My old truck will out live me, at 133k she is just stretching her legs and hasn't even warmed up yet.

 

This is really too easy. There are tons of threads to enable you to upgrade the radio and navy unit that will be far better than anything Toyota puts out.

While at it you can upgrade your speakers and amplifiers.

You will recapture the cost of that through a years of reliable service.

I have 95,000 completely trouble free miles on my 2017. I bought a used center stack (The silver wing thing) off eBay. My plan is to paint it matte black to match the rest of the TRD pro interior color, then mount a new nav unit that allows full steering wheel controls etc. into the new unit and install it.

Ultimately I don't really mind the current unit. I frequently run my Samsung Galaxy tablet and Bluetooth everything movies music audiobooks nav etc.

I used to be an audio file, but 25 years in the Army has all but destroyed my hearing

If you love the truck and appreciate the reliability, there are plenty of options. Besides, regen 2.5 dual cab is one of the best looking bodies on a Tundra ever made.

Are you kidding? Sounds like you just need shocks, a supercharger, gear swap, powertrax, headers, exhaust, and a tune with a few other goodies. Turds will be left in the dust and you will still have a few grand to play with for other good stuff.

IMO why buy a tundra if you never planned to keep it long term. That’s why we buy these things, they’re relatively problem free for most of their ownership. There are more exciting trucks on the market from other manufacturers if you plan to trade up frequently. I’m more inclined to take pride in what I have and spend a few bucks on personalizing it to my use and taste rather than get stuck in a revolving door of debt to have the latest thing. Your current tundra is a super solid foundation, so personally I would just build on it rather than moving to a problem ridden new design.

I have a 2018 Crewmax like you from new. I get 18-20 mpg on average as well fully loaded doing about 55 mph up and down hills mostly. Do you think the factory transmission cooler helps with mpg. 8^)
A lot of people think they got rid of the 5.7 L for mpg but that’s not only partly true. It was because of emissions.

I started a thread in ’22 like this before any info was out really on the new Tundra. Could have made $8k on my truck after 4 years ownership. Am I glad I did not do anything ?

I am biased. I like Unicorns. Your truck is a Unicorn built on its own line for many years with many features that distinguished it from competition at the time. Never to be duplicated or built again.
The new Tundra is no Unicorn. It shares many things with smaller Toyota pickups /SUV’s, and it tries to mimic the big three for gadgetry and tech. Its a "business" profit truck now.

Re: your comments on ride and stereo.
My truck rides ok fully loaded because it has the TRD suspension. But like others have said – easy to change out suspension and put pieces back after if you sell, and sell the extra pieces separately.

I am an audiophile as one of the crazy hobbies. I love good sound. But in my truck I like the Borla exhaust with music in the background. Change out the deck to get the tech that is on your phone if you like, and you will be surprised at the bang for buck if you just pop off the front dash speaker grills, unscrew those cheap front speakers. and replace with a decent pair of coax’s off __Ama__zon__ You can get the speaker harness off of __Ama__zon__ too, so its all plug and play. Keep the old parts again reverse if you like.

Doesn't that truck still have the key and fob separate? Oh and the same transmission that my 05 truck has? Toyota really believes in the theory "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
If you really want to upgrade, wait a few more years for Toyota to work out the kinks on the new engine and dial in all other oddities. Maybe by then you'll have 50k on the clock

 

In 22 had a Carmax offer for $44,000.00, but to upgrade to a Platinum would have ran me at least another $25,000.00. I love the electronics on the new cars but really $25k more? It reminds me of going from an iPhone 12 to a 14. Not enough difference to justify the cost. Before the new Tundra's came out I was hoping to upgrade for $15k max. I took my truck out Saturday for a 250 mile trip with a bunch of city miles and I still got 18 mpg combined. Oh, by the way I used the navigation and it told me about traffic alerts. I didn't even know it could do that. Anyone know a good Denver company for a good stereo upgrade without changing my head unit?

You can replace the speakers yourself very easily. Watch some YouTube videos.

 

OP was trolling the hell out of us. If someone were to actually trade a basically brand new 2.5 gen for a 3rd gen, I would call the local police and 5150 their ass for being insane and a danger to the community.

Or if he really wants one, wait another 3 months and you will be seeing even bigger discounts. Where I am the new limited 1974 is 7k off at the dealer! The limited edition one!

I have no affiliation with that dealer, just where I bought my 21 and I check it out to see inventory levels sometimes.

Neighbor got offered 8k off msrp on a limited a month ago. I think if we wait a few more months they might just hand them out with an oil change.

 

OP I am glad someone like you traded in for a Ford.

I went backwards from a 2022 Ford to a 2018 Tundra SR5 4x4 with 32,500 miles on it last fall. I did it to get a reliable Dinosaur without all the electronic gee wiz gadgetry that I think is making vehicles less reliable long term. So far the Best truck I have owned.

I looked at the news ones as I do get the itch and I keep thinking I didn't buy an extended warranty for the 2018 and would for a 2024. That alone means I don't trust it long term without an expensive repair and pay double what I paid for the 2018? No thanks.

Get a new stereo. I did that in my 2012 Sequoia and it made a huge difference.

Lastly, you drive so little, why would you spend $60 to $80k on a new one other than you want a change?

PS. I played around with trading and since the used market has price collapsed, I was offered $28,000 for it with 39,000 miles on it. So it was a pass for me as that is too low.
