Well my aftermarket cats did throw a code. The MAGNAFLOWS were put on by the dealer, because it sat for 8 months waiting for OEM's. Its been working good for 6K miles, towing a trailer and general run around activities. Went to AutoZone and had them scan it. The report showed the cat needing replacement. I've only got 18K on the truck and wondering is that covered under my 3year 36month warranty ? Any thoughts are helpful !

I would just get an OBDlink MX+ or similar device for reading codes using your phone. Then just drive around and clear the codes when they come up, depending on the codes and frequency of them you can put in mini cats that will usually prevent cat codes.

Now since the dealer put them on if it’s very recurring and depending on the codes I would take it back and have them replace with OEM.

I waited a year for my OEM cats in 21-22 after they were stolen........

ETA: sorry you are going through this. I bet someone on the performance side of the house knows a non OEM way to fix this, or see if you can get OEM replacements paid for by someone else.

They are small catalytic converters that plug into the o2 sensor hole then the o2 sensor plugs into them. This is intended to make the o2 sensor believe the catalytic converter system is functioning correctly. They are usually 50-75$ a piece. This is commonly used for systems with high flow cats or no cats, where tuning cannot remove the CEL errors. *obviously for offroad use only in Mexico*

I’ve been looking into this option and very interested, but does the larger pipe diameter cause any low end torque issues?

Update: The dealer suggested contacting the insurance company for a supplement to the original claim. I was nervous when I called. Geico was more happy to reopen it and sent the adjuster to the dealer. They approved the total replacement to OEM cats. The dealer isn't having any problems getting them, a couple of days. So for info purposes I posted this if anyone else has issues with their aftermarket cats (dealer installed). Don't hesitate to call if yours fail.

How much is the dealer quoting for the cats?

I have 2 high flow 200 cell cats. Which when running as is would get multiple types of CELs daily. Using the large mini cats no more CEL. Smaller engines can run no cats and use the small mini cats for rear O2s, larger engines need the large ones at least. Guys will stack large and small and/or a 90d bend when going catless type setups.

Which code #? If it's an after cat code i would try spark plug defoulers. They are cheap and easy to install. Worked on my old Nissan but that was an older vehicle. If you are in an emissions testing location you will probably fail for using them though.

The dealer charged my insurance company 5988.12. The truck seems peppier and I am happy with the results.
