Checking if anyone else has experienced this before getting it checked at the dealership

I have a 2017 4x4 with less than 1500 miles. All stock as far as mechanical goes. At some point around 1000 miles, I started to notice an odd sound.

When I cold start and leave my house, during the first shift from first to second there is a thunk sound. I can also feel it through the gas pedal. I am very light on the accelerator since I'm in a neighborhood. The shift always happens in a slight right turn.

I've noticed it at least 5 times but not sure if it does it every time. Ivehicle only noticed it during this situation. Never when warm or any other shifts.

Mine does this too! Driving me mad. Same spot every time I pull onto the main street in my neighborhood. It's a subtle little thunk.

It's ABS. I just did some testing around work and it was reproduced over and over, and normally right around a shift point. Admittedly, I don't normally feel it, because the sound of the door auto lock draws my attention. Start your car, lock the doors, and then drive off, and you will feel it every time at 15 miles per hour

Makes complete sense. I usually lock the doors - especially with the kids inside - before leaving the drive way. Interesting. Thanks so much.

Thanks all for the replies. Glad I don't have to let the clowns at the dealership look at it.

Weird that you posted this, but I'm glad you did, since mine does this too. I was just thinking when it happened this morning that I should probably ask about it. My doors lock when I shift out of park, so when this noise (and vibration) happen, it's noticeable. Glad it's nothing to worry about.

Thanks for this thread. My 2017 just hit 1000 miles and I’ve noticed it doing the same thing. Always after a cold start and always at low speed shortly after starting driving. I’m glad to know it might just be an ABS test. I was worried it was the 1st-2nd shift in the transmission.

My 2020 is making this sound at 7mph after every cold start. I am going to have it looked at but would the ABS check happen at 7mph? My concern isn’t high because this happens every time I start up and not throughout a drive. Seems normal but annoying. I have never experienced this sound in any other truck I have owned.

My 2020 does the same around 7-8mph. Pretty sure it's the ABS

Mine did this ever since the very first drive off the dealership lot. Cold start, first 20/30 feet, a subtle "bonk" that you can feel in the pedal. There have been numerous threads and almost all of them result in the determination that it's not a bad thing.

I hardly notice it anymore. Just like the fine high pitched whine from the TRD intake that you get when applying the accelerator.

It’s normal. My ‘18 does the same exact thing. Nothing to worry about.
