@shifty` Could just be the rears. The parking brake shifts the rear drum pads to a low engagement bias. Until you release the PB and really use the pads in a forward motion to rock them back to an upper engagement bias, they may drag a little different.

 

As an outdoors man you should know about Thermacell. Absolute lifesaver for those early mornings and late evenings against them skeeters and biting fliies

I think maybe you underestimate the tenacity, quantity, and size of skeeters in the SE USA. IMO, they're worse here than anything I experienced in FL, TX or CA, although the ones in CA I never saw, they just tore me tf up.

Only thing that works around here is something you'll periodically see in pics of my truck's dash/console area:

drier sheets also work incredibly well. Wipe yourself down with one.

the Texas coast has some of the gnarliest skeeters and horse flies I've delt with. The only places that may have a worse deal is Louisiana.

 

Arkansas is the nations largest producer of rice, and therefore mosquitos. SE Arkansas mosquitos will exsanguinate you in swarms in minutes. We deet, we thermacell, we fog, we wear longsleeves and pants in summer, we stay indoors at dusk. We all have swineflu, malaria, equine flu and whatever else mosquitos transmit. We are tougher for it.

 

But also I’m not crazy.

PS - spent plenty of my life in West Monroe, as I've said on here a few times. In the woods shooting squirrels out of trees, in the bayous or at the spillway pulling cats and largemouth, in the rows pulling peas to hull. I'd never believe it had you told me when I was younger, but the mosquitoes are definitely worse in my yard in ATL, and I don't have standing water anywhere I can control, I check my neighbor's yards too. It's weird as hell. The skeeters are just unusually bad here for whatever reason. I can go up to SC, like on lake Hartwell, and not get bitten once.

Yea our california ones are tiny, you dont see them and they especially destroy your feet and lower legs. We call that variety "ankle biters" for that reason.

I discovered one neat trick that mechanics, insurance adjusters and autobody shops HATE to clean the yellow oxidation off of my headlights and make them look new again in 3 easy steps!

This is how it started:


The first step is to clean and then buff the light with fine rubbing compound. This removes most of the heavy oxidation and almost makes the headlights usable:


The second step is to use a headlight polish kit that includes an abrasive. The abrasive mechanically removes most of the surface yellowing then you polish the light. I used the Cerakote kit for this step. It worked okay, but the headlights still had a yellow tint to them.


The final step is the most crucial. Carefully remove the side marker lights and the headlights. Place the yellowed headlights in your trash bin. Install new Depo headlights.


All jokes aside, my headlights needed to be replaced as the tabs to secure the side markers were broke allowing the side markers to flop around. The upper tabs of the headlights that meets the fenders were also cracked, the reflective material inside the light was delaminating causing weird light patterns and the adjuster mechanism was stripped out. I also discovered the side markers lenses were cracking and had separated from their housings.

 

Ugh! Seems like I’ve either got tranny or rear diff issues. Drove home for lunch and it feels like something bumping the rear end while idling. Worse under acceleration; kinda like a hopping.

I’ll turn off overdrive and drive it back to work on the backroads so I can check the tranny fluid level. Might be a tad low.

It’s like a midget was trapped in the gas tank kicking to get out. Really weird sensation. No loud noise, just a bumping/(or kicking as described).

 

But at idle tranny and diff no move.....

 

Okay, that actually made me laugh out loud....

Does it 'jump' when the AC compressor engages? I generally stop with a really light foot on the brake and have noticed the truck will sort of jump when the compressor kicks on.

Okay, that might explain it at idle. I did turn on the AC before I got to the highway.

Not sure of the hopping feel when accelerating up to 60 mph.
