Need some help with parking brake malfunction while changing brake pads. I got the caliper off and new pads installed but the caliper wouldnt compress so I tried the parking brake procedure again and now it said malfunction and the piston is all the way out and I can't figure how to get it back in? Any help?

It twists in. Run to the nearest auto parts store and rent a caliper toolIMG_3951.jpg

Crap. Hopefully someone else can chime in but you shouldn’t see any fluid. You may have over extended it looking at the picture. You may have done that activating the brake off the rotor

Screw the piston back in and hit it with brake clean. See if it still leaks after all the fluids cleaned up

Okay so I did top it off and my brake pedal still goes to the floor. Does that mean air got in and I need to bleed the line?

Did you check to see if the boot was leaking after you pressed on the brake?

maybe you can get away with doing just the one that got air in it. But that air could have gotten in the whole system.

if you do the whole system start with the furthest from the master cylinder then work your way in order.

So I just bled the line and it all seems normal now. The only issue now is the parking brake malfunction code is popping up, parking brake is also not engaging when I pull the level but not sure if i screwed it up or if I just need to clear the code first. Is there a way to clear the code without tech stream? I've disconnected the battery and nothing happened

Maybe someone else can chime in I. This one. You’ll need to clear the code at the dealership/ tech stream. Maybe an OBD2 device can do it… hopefully that should suffice. As long as both e-brakes ( left and right) are synchronized. Meaning both are retracted/ detracted.

Dealer may do it for free, if hes a nice guy. Them electric gremlins be crazy sometimes….

I purchased one of those techstream cables off Amazon that comes tomorrow. Hopefully that will clear it

Did you try setting the ebrake with the calipers removed?

I did the exact same thing. Got it back in, compressed, and back on. Same error message too. Parking brake works though; tested on an incline, with the truck in neutral. Did you get the code cleared?
