need some help in making a decision on buying 2015 now or wait for 2016. I'm looking to buy a 2015 tundra crewmax 5.7 4x4 in blue ribbon metallic. My dealer is doing 6,000 off right now till beginning of September. I read that they are doing away with that color and replacing with blazing blue pearl. I looked up that color and found it in a Tacoma to at least see what it looked like. There aren't many blue ribbon tundras here where I live and I like having something most don't and with some mods I'm planning to do my truck would definitely stick out. I just can't decide if I like blazing blue pearl more and wonder if more will buy that color around here. I also read that the 2016 sr5 grille will have slightly different design, not as big a deal since I plan to put trd pro grille on later anyway. Also that the mileage is supposed to be slightly better. If anyone else knows any changes on the 2016 I'd love to hear them.
I'm trying to decide if I should buy 2015 now in the blue ribbon metallic with the deal they are offering or wait to see if I'm better off with 2016. I've bought couple toyotas from the dealer so they give me employee pricing so I'm keeping that in mind also. Been thinking about this quite a bit and decided I'd reach out to you guys for some help and advice. Thanks!

I would get a 16. It comes with a larger gas tank (except in the lowest trim, I think). Also, if you are planning to get a brake controller, it come with it also.

Tough choice indeed. Let's see: You have a chance to save $6K on a new 2015 with the color you want. The 2016 may have a slightly different grill and maybe slightly better gas mileage in a color similar to what you want. I'd say go for the 15. If you really need a bigger gas tank, it can be had for under $2K installed. See @Wikid. Decent brake controller $100 and up. 2016 discount: certainly not $6K. I'd say again, go for the 15. The money you save is much more than what you gain by buying the 16. IMHO

Also the factory trailer brake controllers are supposed to be backwards compatible with the 2015's. I am waiting for them to come out so I can buy one. I say buy a 15. Better deal.

You are in the "drivers" seat dealing for a 15. Dealer has to move remaining 15's. Not near as much leverage with the new model year truck.

Agree with above. You are likely to get a much better deal on the 15. You can put the money you saved into mods to make it your own.

This. Unless by some miracle they came out with 2016 supercharged tundra with big tank, crawl control, and e locker you might as well get it now because they won't change much until the 4th gen.

Think about it. If you want a 2016 and think it is so much better than the 2015, then wait until this time next year to buy it. By then the 2017's will be out with possibly a diesel, new gas super charged 3.5L 400 horse motor, a real Eaton/Detroit locker. Just saying. Go with what you feel is "right" now.

I had a coworker that kept procrastinating on buying a computer. He was always looking at the newspaper ads at the current deals. Was afraid that as soon as he bought one, a better one would be out. I told him to buy a computer good enough that will allow you to upgrade processor, video card, memory, etc. Finally took my advice. Same with Tundras. I'm happy with my 07 SR5 with 60,600 miles on it. I have a lot of options to do with. Just need a larger money tree. heh heh

If I might ask, what state are you in? Do you 4 wheel a lot? What are your plans with your new Tundra? Make a list before you sign the dotted line. For God's sake, read the window sticker list of what you are paying a lot of skin for. For example: "I DO NOT WANT FLEX FUEL". Take advantage of the dealer while you have the edge. Maximize your leverage now!

You haven't found your money tree seeds yet? Same boat. SR5 gives you a fighting chance to do reasonable upgrades. Check out @csuviper mod list. Top notch list. Won't find a better list anywhere.

I would go 2015 unless you tow a lot and need the larger tank.

Even if you tow a lot, a larger tank (10 gallons more) will get you maybe another 100 miles to 170?) Not worth a $6K difference. (Knock off 5 gallon Jerry cans much cheaper,$50+?) If you tow get the 4.3 gears that comes with tow haul option and "winter " package for peanuts.

I live in south Louisiana. I have always wanted 4x4 but never been able to get one and kept two wheel drive tundra. I want to take my dad surf fishing on beach more and hunting. I got stuck twice in my two wheel drive and it is bad feeling and had I been in 4x4 I would have been fine.
I would like to change grille out, plasti dip badges and bumpers like I did on my current tundra, tint, add the under seat storage that I saw posted on this site, and level front end for sure, not sure on lifting too high right now, it's hard for my parents to get in my truck if I go too high so I might just level for now. I'm sure I'll come up with more mods especially being on this forum, a lot fm good ideas on here. I'm like you not real big on flex fuel, I do like the part time 4 wheel drive option.

The 4WD Tundra will be perfect for surf fishing. The only thing I miss doing in Kommiefornia is surf fishing. Not much surf fishing going on here in Denver. heh heh. Most of the mods you mentioned won't cost you an arm and a leg. If you don't want flex fuel , just remember to tell that to the salesman and read the window sticker list of goodies. Some dealers don't even have flex fuel. Depends on region and whats delivered to them I guess. If all the dealer has is flex fuel (which is not a big deal, just burn dino), complain enough to get them to knock off a few hundred bucks or add some accessories like spray in bed liner/more undercoating (sea surf salt protection) for example. Can't hurt.

Definitely want the undercoating living on the coast. That was one of the first things I had done before I drove it off the lot. Negotiate that, or have them include it in price. Good luck

Update on my truck buying, waited to hear from salesman as they searched for truck I wanted. Couple weeks go by and I hear nothing so I contacted him and he said they couldn't find anything. You would think when he said he would let me know in couple days but weeks pass that he could have let me know something. Told him I did a build on Toyota website and there were at least 10 available that our area could get in. He said they were all marked sold. Each day I checked and there were still some out there. So yesterday I call and talk to another salesman and expressed my frustration. He said he understood and would get sales manager to call me in 10 minutes. Sure enough he called and apologized for what happened and told me to come in this morning and we would sit down and find what I wanted. I usually get employee pricing or little below that because I have bought several trucks from them. I'm about to head over there and see what he can do with either 2015 or 2016 and if price is right pull the trigger.

Sorry kept some of you waiting and having to eat popcorn the tools time :). Sales manager met with me and found a 2016 they could get pretty easy and it is sr5 with no step bars or black rims I wanted but I can add them to it. Of course their price is high but I got figures from them and this weekend I'm going to write down prices from trd Sparks and anywhere else that you guys recommend and have dealer do a price match. he also gave option of getting TSS black package that already come with black bars and wheels with all terrain tires. That package is little over 4,000. Those wheels are 20's. I was thinking of getting the 18's and putting trd pro wheels on and getting tires like some of you guys have been posting. Just have to add up the two scenarios and see which way works best I guess. He did say he will give me same deal on the 16 as he would the 15 because I've been loyal customer and had to deal with this situation with the salesman. He told me I'd get employee pricing or little less than that if I went with them. I don't feel bad asking them to price match add ons, should I?

I would skip the TSS package. If you're planning on customizing it yourself, I would not worry about it. I would see if they can place some decent 18" wheels on there, spray in bed liner, and upgrade your audio the the premium sound  You could try fighting for a suspension life and tires too, but that's taking it pretty far up there haha.

2016 TSS Edition Crewmax 5.7V8 4x4 Blazing Blue Pearl
Wheel spacers installed, windows tinted, 3/1 lift, blackout badges, center console organizer, trd shift nob, underseat storage from ESP truck accessories, plastidip front and rear bumpers, trd pro grille and hood bulge, undercover flex bedcover, and whatever other ideas I get from you guys on this forum.
Ok guys, went in yesterday and got me 2016 Blazing Blue Pearl Crewmax. After letting sales manager know I wasn't happy with salesman dropping ball on getting me 2015 with the nice rebate he dealt with me directly and skipped salesman. They couldn't get one I wanted but said he would give me same deal on 2016. Waited a week and told him to find one. They got one in yesterday in the new color I was looking at and called me to come by. Traded in my 2013 crewmax 2 wheel drive for 2016 crewmax 4x4 and went today to pick it up. Took wheel spacers off my old tundra and out on new one. Going next week to do probably 3/1 lift for now. Can't afford to do anything more than the as far as lift is concerned. Going to black out badges next and out trd pro grille on. Also adding under seat storage by ESP when it arrives hopefully next week. Post couple pics of it at the dealer then took couple more.
