Since my truck will be at the airport for a bit, added cheap tailgate security.

Good idea. Everyone should at very least lock tailgates. Just saw on tundracrew fb guy in AZ I think went to walk his dog at 2am and thought from distance he forgot to put tailgate up. As got closer realized it gone. Here's to my 2nd PSA after adding mods to ur ins co. For those that don't know tailgates are very easy to steal and worth big bucks to both the piece of shit thieves and u if u ever got to replace. Don't believe me look up how much it is to buy a replacement tailgate. That dollar amount might just make u decide to lock it everytime like me. U can see in top left of pic the 1 side of deadbolt type lock I got on my diamondback, there's one of those on both sides of cover both front and back. I lock both of those and my tailgate before everytime I leave my garage. Hope my 2nd PSA helps one of u guys avoid an issue. Tnx for posting above, maybe both our posts will help someone avoid a pretty common theft issue many are still not aware of.20170915_214825.jpg

I did the same on mine. Easy fix for more security, loosen the clamp slightly, spin it 180 degrees so the slot/hex is pointing down towards the ground. Then finish the tightening with a 5/16" box end wrench. This method needs a 5/16" wrench to remove rather than just a slotted screwdriver. Just my 2 cents.....

Just to clarify, a professional thief will still be able to get the tailgate using this method. However, it will take them a little longer to get it and sometimes seconds or minutes could mean the difference. This method is however a great cheap and easy deterrent for those non pros out there. The smash and grab type bitch punks out there. Chances are they're just looking for those unlocked gates without these that they can just pop off real quick and take off. Definitely spend the extra 30 secs to lock em up. That coupled with this little trick can deter those wannabe thieves. Truth be told though a pro thief with enough time can get at anything. Part of reason I decided to get the diamondback cover was for its security. I'm not positive but I'm pretty damn sure even a pro thief would have a real hard time getting anything in my bed or tailgate. I'm also guessing that cover alone would also deter most thieves both pro and non from even trying. It would just be too hard and too much time to even attempt getting in mine. Anyone who don't have a solid locking bed cover, do yourself a favor and at very least lock up your tailgate and throw one on in the above pic. It could be the difference of keeping ur tailgate yours. Good luck all.

The clamp is an easy one off with a pair of pliers. I think I spent $20 on a lock for it.

Good product, there's that, pop n lock, locking tonneau covers, the above trick, and a whole mess of different products out there for all different budgets. The 1 thing everyone should do anytime their truck is outside and you plan to walk away from it is lock your tailgate. It don't guarantee it from being stolen but it decreases your chances greatly. Like I said b4 a real deal pro scumbag thief will get whatever he sets his mind to with enough time. But even with him just locking it makes it take a little longer. Most people who get them stolen are not even from pros. It's usually just some young p.o.s. drug addict thats walking around lifting handles on the gate. They find 1 that's unlocked and jump on opportunity. They find any theft deterrent, that's not a quick hit for their ill prepared spur of the moment hit, they close it up and move on. My point being at the very least do urself a favor and lock em up. After that, the more better the deterrent the more likely u won't have to deal with this kind of shit. Lot of people aren't even aware this is kind of a big thing going on out there until they go around the back of their truck and realize it's gone. Then it's too late to prepare against it. I'm just trying to help that type of person out from having to learn the hard way. Unfortunately, sometimes that's what it takes. Hopefully after reading this u do something and the more the better, but at very least lock ur tailgate up. If u type to forget, get pop n lock. It not expensive just gotta wire it up. I'd hate to come on this site 1 day and see a pic of 1 of u guys or gals without ur tailgate. Don't be like me and only learn things the hard way.

And don't think for 1 second that if u live in a nice neighborhood u don't have to worry about it. Statistics show most thefts happen in nice neighborhoods that are within a close proximity to a shitty 1. There's more crime in the shitty neighborhoods, but for theft, these same people leave the shitty neighborhoods they from and make their hits in the closest nice town with some money. I'm in no way being racist or suggesting any 1 particular group or ethnicity of people are responsible. I'm just letting those of you who might be thinking I live in a nice neighborhood where this type of thing I don't have to worry about, that u wrong, u above all should prepare against it so u don't have to worry about it because u may not know it, but u are the target a majority of the time. I consider myself very street smart, my brothers a cop, and I got a bunch of friends that are cops. I got friends that live in both nice rich towns and shitty neighborhoods. I'm paranoid and stat up on stuff like this. Some would even say I know what I'm talking about. Just take a little precaution against it and don't believe it won't happen to ya. U ain't gotta stay up at night checking ur shit every 30 secs. Just do urself a favor, spend at least a few bucks or minutes making it harder for someone to profit off ur loss.

Last time I tried to bring up being in a nice neighborhood makes you at a higher risk to be a victim, some member wanted to battle with me lol. Some are just too ignorant.

I've been volunteering with PD/Sherriff departments for 16 years now. Some you just can't get to see the other side, so I let it be.
