If you don't know what the dirt bag lifestyle is then you probably haven't lived it.

Can anyone relate to me when I say that sometimes, normally during heftily stressful changes, I wish I could go back to certain times in my life when they were less difficult, more rewarding, fewer "worldly things," and way more fun??

    I miss these days...........

    11234865_10206488505626644_8967485050340_9271bba1b1da99dd19f5358ed8e0232ff907169c.jpg

This was shot during my sabbatical between my third college and when "responsibility" actually started.

Honestly....the easiest time of my life was when I was homeless. It just sucked sleeping in the back on my truck during the summer with little airflow through the camper shell...but I enjoyed it.

There have been times when I would rather punch a clock for less money, and less stress, but I also enjoy having nicer things for my family, and being able to give our children things I never would have dreamed of as a child.
Hell, in my childhood we ate eggs for breakfast, who knows what for lunch, and eggs for dinner. Sports? Hah.
Anyone remember when McDonalds had .29 cheeseburgers? My mom used to buy two dozen of those and the three of us would live off of those.

As kids, we used to go to church with my neighbor as we knew they would stop at this breakfast place on the way back. We ate pancakes like no other lol.

I remember one time the gas company knocking on our door and my mom speaking with him and then closing it saying "who wants McDonalds for dinner?!" We were psyched as kids! Guess what? She was only saying that to make the gas guy think we had money to go out and eat. That was brutal lol

I can't say I would like being homeless.

I'll let you know in a few days.

I know you won't need it, but we have a basement you're welcomed to while you seek a new house.

We'll have another extra bedroom at the new place too. You guys are always welcomed.

I remember the .29 cheeseburgers. I had McD's birthday parties every year because we got all kinds of free stuff, and hours on the dangerous playground out front with the metal horses that were always broken and the rusty slide that would rip shorts.

@Sean266 I am very appreciative of the life I've worked my tail off for, but the "success" comes with unforeseen challenges. The challenge I face now is the most stressful I've ever encountered. I'm sure there are many out there that have had it much worse, but this is MY pinnacle of overload. I know more will come and how I handle this one builds for the next.

In my years of experiencing.... I've seen a lot, done a lot, and encountered more than most people I know. I have been graced with the abilities to create something out of nothing and I'm hoping this time will prove to be no diffferent.

The old saying "when one door closes..another opens" has been the unstated mantra since I was 18. I hope the tale doesn't fail this time.

I've taken legal guardianship over these 3 kids as a way to protect them, teach them, and guide them; the big man above knows what's up and he will not let us fall.

I started the thread as a tribute to my past, which is just that...MY PAST.

The FUTURE is brightest once we surface from the dark.....

Lmao! We did the 29 cent cheeseburgers every Tuesday for as long as it lasted. My dad got pissed when they raised it to 39 cents. But I think that's why I don't ever eat McDonalds anymore... except the Sausage McMuffin with egg.

You'll never be homeless when you have friends like us!!

If it makes you feel any better you can pay my rent while you stay here. That would technically bump you from homeless status :D

I tell my kids all the time they have no idea how fortunate they are. I share the horror stories of dial-up with them
I've taken my daughter to the butthole of Denver to show her how some people have to live. No family, no housing, no clue where or when your next meal is coming, having to watch your back 24/7, etc. when she started crying, I backed off thinking she got the point.

There was a guy at Sams Deli that had a crush on my mom. My brother and I would walk there (probably 3-5 miles) for free ice cream haha

I'm in my late 30. Years of racing BMX and almost 30 years of riding dirt bikes have taken their toll. Haven't had them worked on yet, but I should.

My first one was more of a clean out. I forgot the medical term, but basically the muscle tissue was inflamed.

I'll know next week if anything is really wrong with the other one that has been an issue since earlier this year.

Don't get me wrong. Everything I do is a sacrifice for my kids. My parents were not a part of my life and unfortunately, they are not a part of their granddaughters' either. I am glad I can be there for them in ways that my parents will never comprehend. But, give or take a couple of thousand, I've made the same base salary for the last 7 years at the day job. The stress and travel have gone up. The bonus/commission comes and goes and fluctuates so much that I do not count it. I spend most of the day smashing my head against the wall. I get tired of being angry and frustrated all the time.

My brief reprieves are escaping on the bike or in the truck, working on the truck and my photography. It does get to be a bit much at times. I daydream about getting a used 35' Airstream, throwing Bec and the kids in it along with bikes and skis and cameras, hooking it to the truck and just disappearing over the horizon.

Would I ever act on those impulses? Highly doubtful. My daughters are way too talented at what they do for me to drag them away. So, I'll just continue to keep my head down, fly under the radar and take my little escapisms as they come. Talking about becoming a dirt bag again is one of them.
