New here. Supercharger question.

Hello. New to the community. I have come to love my Toyotas/Lexus vehicles over the years. They just “go” without the same kinds of problems that I’ve had with other vehicles.

I’m looking for advice about the early 00’s 2UZ-FE TRD supercharger. I managed to get ahold of one a while back that came out of a 2003 Sequoia that had been T-boned. I ran across some threads on here and saw that jamesjr4750 is a good resource, but I wasn’t able to find him on search. Does anyone have any good firsthand experience with the TRD superchargers across various 4.7L models?

Do not exceed 6psi on the 4.7. They have weak connecting rods and are prone to failure.

I don’t want anything too crazy. I’m just looking for some “oomph” in the mountains. I frequently drive between 9000-12000 ft of elevation. My GX is a beast at sea level, but lacks power where I live. I just want to let it “breathe” more and not constantly doing gear-finding in the mountains to maintain speed.

 

Keeping it stock is a safe option.

 

It’s too late for stock. I have numerous modifications already, but not on the engine. The TRD supercharger seems like a reasonable option, along with Doug Thorley headers to reduce pumping losses. The TRD is designed by Toyota engineers and relatively low pressure, so seems reasonable. For every 1,000ft of elevation gain, there is a ~3% loss of hp. At 12,000ft that is a roughly 36% loss in hp. I have driven it to Pikes Peak and Mt Evans, both over 14,000ft, where it is gutless compared to my turbo-ed vehicles. I would like to get somewhere near the same power of sea level at high elevation.
