General Supercharger Thread

I've been talking to Smoothboost, the company that makes the adjustable electronic bypass valve that was discussed on here a while back. Sounds like it will work on our trucks and would allow you to run a small pulley then dial in the max boost as-desired. Might end up with that an a 70mm on mine

That sounds great especially if we could control boost pressure like a wastegate. I'm worried about my 750 Injectors, already seen 90's injDC with 76. And I don't trust my stock FFV pump lol

 

Then you might be best served by taking that 70mm into the house for a little while yet.

I really liked this idea and was in the process of talking to them and getting them measurements for the Harrop bypass valve mount. The buy in is steep which was why I never continued with it, but it would be sick. Run a real small pulley and then just pick your boost level you want to run with the turn of a dial with a nasty low RPM hit on tap at all times. That’s even easier than varying boost with a turbo then especially for the guys at elevation. Interested to hear how it progresses for you.

 

It's about as close as you can get with a blower as far as I've been able to find. Taps into the TPS signal and has a knob to adjust the boost curve up/down. It's almost $1000, so if you want to get one and report back, that would be cool

 

Was just reading through. Did they say which kit would work with the 2650? Looks like most the kits they list are whipple and 1 Edelbrock. Seems to be universal almost.

They have a kit that bolts right up to the magnuson 2650. Probably this one or a variant of it

Tomorrow I have a short trip to just below 6k ft. Part of the plan is to also to try to get a couple data logs at that lower elevation to see where my injector DC is there, among a few other tidbits.

 

Well holy shit good research and find! Controlling boost is a game changer. I wonder if you can taper into boost with this controller. I've got some reading to do lol

Here's what they said when I asked that same question: "The boost curve is based on throttle position. As you open the throttle the bypass is closing with a 20% cruise range where the bypass does not begin to close. This is how you get superb drivability that the vacuum operated bypass falls short being that it is basically open or closed, not much in-between and still get instant power response from the blower as soon as you stab the throttle. The boost control strategy on PD blowers is simple since it produces a pretty constant boost pressure throughout the rpm range so with the boost knob it produces a flat boost curve throughout the rpm range same as changing pulley sizes."

Ya, it's interesting. I just took a look at a recent log where there was a WOT run, only up to 65mph though, and my DC was just under 55%. I'm interested to see how that will change as I drop in elevation.

 

That makes sense. It not like a true internal/external wastegate but close enough! For sure worth running.

 

A guy in SLC bought a 70mm, one of the rare people not on the forum. I only talked to him briefly though and I didn't tune his truck so not sure how it went or is/did perform.

In the 10s im maxing out now about 86% injDC. When I'm rich in the 9s I seen 99% DC lol so idk

I looked a bit more in detail at the WOT segment, and it was only up to about 4.4krpms, so not the best example. AFRs in that area were 10.5 to 9.4, I could pull a smidge of fuel there in my PE table, but we'll see what the bigger picture shows when I can get some logs all the way to redline.

 

Wow, at 5800rpm 10.5afr 11.5psi I'm at 72% with 750's. Still need to open up to 6000-6400rpm.

 

Interesting to hear what his results are. Especially not knowing what mods etc.

I have 5-0 650s sniv said are running max at 63%, maybe because I'm near 60lbs on the adjustible FPR?

 

What fuel pump are you running?

 

Has it already been discussed as to how to get Boost data into VCM Scanner from the PSB-1 via Prolink+? I wired my Prolink+ in the other day and am soooo happy to be able to log AFRs now. I'd be cool to see how AFRs and boost move together (or not) during less that WOT runs.
