Looking to purchase a new truck from out of state. Is it ok to drive it 5 hours at freeway speed right after purchase?

Sure. Vary your speed and take some cool down breaks. The rear end is settling in and can get hot until it’s broken in. The engines really don’t need much break in, but varying the speed and not cruising at 2000rpm constantly supposedly helps things seat appropriately. Not towing or drag racing until break in period is complete for these reasons as well.

Break in period is disappearing gradually.

Last two vehicles I've bought have both been taken on thousands of miles on the interstate without breaks and performed fine. Interstate driving is very low stress on any vehicle.

I just bought one in Tennessee & drove it back to Florida the next day, but I took the back roads for the 600 mile trip home. Took 3-4 hours longer but was a peaceful drive & gave some time to get used to the truck. Also easier to vary speeds & not drive too fast.

I'm keeping RPMs under 4k and no WOT. At 1k miles, I'll change the oil then feel it's good to go. I'm at 700 now.

Bought my new 2023 from Haley Toyota in Richmond, VA. Drove it back to Charleston, SC the same day. I varied my speed once in a while. Pretty sure I kept it to 65 and under for the first few hundred miles.

To extend the life of the vehicle, observing the following precautions is recommended:

●For the first 200 miles (300 km): Avoid sudden stops.
●For the first 500 miles (800 km): Do not tow a trailer.
    ●For the first 1000 miles (1600 km):
    • Do not drive at extremely high speeds.
    • Avoid sudden acceleration.
    • Do not drive continuously in low gears.
    • Do not drive at a constant speed for extended periods.

I think your question has been answered by posts above, like @BlueCrushSC16 I had to drive my new truck a distance to get home, for me about 5.5 hours. I varied speed, luckily mountains helped with that too, and never went above 70. I almost to 30k miles so far, no issues. But I would recommend changing your first oil sooner than the 10k miles.
