Hi @RainMan_PNW - how does one identify the part number of a male connector for a given Toyota female connector?

For example: I need to borrow the illumination circuit from the factory switch - 84153-0R010. It's corresponding female connector is 90980-12C76. Instead of tapping into the factory wiring of this switch, I want to make a daisy chain wiring extender / harness to use its illumination wires. So, how can I identify the corresponding male connector for this female connector 90980-12C76?

    Thanks!

Lots of Google, a little luck, sometimes selling dried bear gall bladders on the Asian black market…

There was a time that IF there was a mating connector, the male would be one number smaller than the corresponding female. Anymore, that is not the case with most of them - as the connector shapes and terminal types have grown/changed the numbering has increased. Additionally, there are many connectors that simply don’t have a matching “wire” connector (as opposed to the soldered connectors used in the switches, etc.).

Sometimes you get lucky by finding the connector on an external site (Corsa Technic for a lot of the sealed connectors, Hi-1000ec for a lot of internal connectors) and can then find a mate for it there. Other times, you can determine what manufacturer the connector is (Yazaki, Sumitomo, AMP/TE Connectivity, etc.) and then run down the rabbit hole to determine the actual manufacturer’s part number, which may then lead you to a mating connector (if it’s not a proprietary or special-run connector for Toyota). And still other times you get lucky finding something on Aliexpress, or (rare) even Amazon

In the case of the connector you listed, it looks like it is a Tokai Rika connector (their part number 4A1620-0000) and they do not offer a mating male connector for it.

Yeah... going down the rabbit hole for several hours is what got me the part that I was looking for.

Uniquesystem.jp manufactures the mating connector for the Toyota female connector 90980-12C76. Their shop is in Japan and shipping rate to US is $50 for a part that costs $3. So, I'm now working with a shopping proxy service (zenmarket.jp) to source it and ship it for cheaper.

See, now I would have bought like 10 of them "to make it worthwhile" and then had nothing to do with the other 9 except think about making breakout harnesses sometime in the future...

Hi all, I appreciate the wiring diagrams they are mostly helpful. I’m having a hard time finding anything related to the dome light wire on a 2008 sequoia with rear dvd. I am replacing it with an aftermarket video monitor. I can’t seem to find a thread that can help locate the dome light wire on the factory rear dvd harness. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

@RainMan_PNW Thank you for this wiring info! Google brought me here looking for the 1st Gen stereo wiring, so I know it wasn't easy gathering it all up. I shared the 1st Gen files on a 1st Gen Sequoia Facebook group, if that's not cool I will delete the posts. I did credit this thread in the posts.

    Miles....
Quick question - don't know if anyone has tried it yet. I have a 2012 Sequoia Platinum with JBL/Rear Entertainment. Replacing the headunit soon with the Kenwood DMX1057. Should be fairly plug and play based on my research. But I want to attempt to connect the rear entertainment system to the new headunit. I've looked through the diagrams and I'm not educated enough to tell the pin locations for the video in audio L/R coming from the Rear entertainment system. The Kenwood does have a Video/Audio in RCA connections so I was hoping to slice into the incoming lines and hookup through the RCA connections. Has anyone isolated the pins to make something like this work, or can someone better versed in these diagrams point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!

In the EWD for your 2012, the "Audio System <Separate Type Amplifier>" (page 51) is the correct diagram.
Page 59-63 reference a "Television Display Assembly" that is your rear seat entertainment system (RSES).
Page 59 shows the speaker and trigger/data lines running to the RSES unit. If you have Satellite radio, those lines run to the sat radio tuner. If you don't, they run to the multi-media ECU on page 58 (page 58 also shows that if you do have satellite radio, the audio lines then pass from the factory sat radio tuner to the multi-media ECU before then passing to the head unit on page 57).
Page 60 doesn't show any RSES wiring
Page 61 shows the video signals - NTSC (video+) and SGN1 (video-) as well as shield running to the main head unit. There's also the battery and accessory power circuits shown.
Page 62 shows the various wiring running from the RSES unit to the "Video Adapter Terminal" which is located in your center console.
Page 63 shows the wiring from the RSES unit to the left and right headphone ports in the center console.

Now, for my non-professional opinion? The factory system is very integrated with a lot of various components that area all working together:
    • Head unit
    • Multi-Media Interface ECU
    • Satellite Radio Tuner
    • JBL Amplifier
    • Rear Seat Entertainment unit
    • Steering wheel controls
    • any Factory dinger/buzzer/settings/etc. (not sure how integrated that was in the 2012)
I'd start with a site like Crutchfield to see what sort of adapters and installation components they have for your specific vehicle, including reaching out to their customer service. They very well may have configurations for what you are looking for.

Obviosly the connectors don't match, but this is not a problem, I can find/bring all the needed wires, only if I know what is what :) Anybody can help?
