Hey guys. Searched the forum but came up empty. Looking for some help…
Today I found the head of a bolt on the floor of my garage under the truck. Crawled underneath and found the rest of the bolt! I’m not a mechanic but this appears to be a mount for the transfer case or front diff? Can anyone confirm that from the photos? It looks to me that that bolt is too small for the hole and water was getting in and sitting and rusted the bolt? The broken end of the bolt was wet when I found it, and there were several rust spots on the floor where the head was. As if rusty water had dried up.
Again, not a mechanic, just looking for confirmation so I know what I’m talking about when I call the dealer tomorrow. Anyone seen this happen before? ‘21 with 37K, never off road.
    Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Did you have any front diff work done? Are you the original owner? I suspect it was over tightened and weakened. The rust is an indication that it's not a fresh break

That same bolt broke on my ‘08 a few years ago. It lead to the front driveshaft yoke contacting the crossmember when the going got tougher in 4wd. I extracted the broken bolt, ordered a new bolt from the dealer and problem solved.

No work done to my knowledge. It was a dealership loaner; I bought it with 5K. I had a 2" leveling kit installed and nothing but oil changes and tire rotations since I've owned it almost 3 yrs. Is that part that the bolt passes through just a mount for the diff?

Seems really odd that it finally broke off while it was just parked in my garage. Another thing that I found strange is that oddly shaped black 'blob' at the top of that piece (above the bolt) looks and feels like hardened foam. Like the kind that comes in an aerosol can that you use to fill cracks/gaps etc... around the house. Didn't expect to find that there.

Maybe the diff was changed before you took ownership. My 2020 Tundra had the diff change at very low mileage. The part the bolt passes through is just a support mount for the front diff. Anyway easy fix ot unlikely it will ever happen again.

I believe the "blob" is there to prevent dirt and water from accumulating in the cavity which would lead to rust.
