Favorite bourbon/ whiskey...

A friend brought this to happy hour Friday. Very smooth.

 

Was luck enough to pick up this allocated for VA ABC Elijah Craig, this is a first for me.

 

This one is interesting to me because the label says it comes from a private barrel selected for Virginia ABC. I didn't know they did that! That means I cannot get that same bottle anywhere else but Virginia.

 

True and I don't think i have ever seen any allocated bourbons specifically for VA ABC, but i did see others being allocated for other states. ABC is a state owned so its very unique to me and had to spend the $ to get it.

 

Yeah I've never seen a state abc get a barrel selection either. But that label is proof that's what happened here. The only way you could get one of those bottles would be to have someone from VA get you one.

 

I had not tried any Barrel products as there are so many to choose from and usually around 90 bucks. At $49 for this and good word of mouth I tried it, it's a pretty good sipper, sweet mild palate but no finish.

 

I flet like that bourbon didn't have enough flavor profile in it from front to back. Which for me comes out as flat. We did a single barrel of it and it too lacked a finish. Maybe that's just their thing, sweet and mild.

 

Definitely not complex, may be a good one to get someone started on.

Picked up a 2oz sample of 2011 Birthday Bourbon. Saving it for my birthday in June. Really looking forward to this one.

 

Never been disappointed from a birthday.

 

It's my favorite release by a large margin. I was a little disappointed in the 20 but 22 & 23 have been very good.

 

Was in Cooperstown NY for my sons baseball team, decided to pick this up for at least the baseball shaped bottle. Also grabbed the 3 pack mini bottles, though I’m not much of a vodka guy

 

Use the vodka to make yourself or a ladyfriend a nice mixed drink

We are going to need some feedback on the Whiskey though once you get a chance to try it...

I had the pleasure of touring the distillery a few years back, and loaded up on a lot of great bourbon. Unfortunately, it all seems to have “evaporated” since then…

 

Sometimes you just get lucky. Went for a drink before my daughters soccer game and picked up these two.

 

A Flag Day old fashioned.

One of my favorite restaurants in town also happens to have a killer bourbon selection. Stopped by for a late lunch and was surprised to find a flight of Pappy @ $175. Ended up doing 1/2 oz pours for $88 since I was driving.

The 15 is my favorite in the full lineup including the 23. I'm not much of a rye guy but that 13 is the 2nd best rye I've had behind the chief wahoo willet release

 

I lucked out at a small speak easy bar several years ago and was able to sample all the Pappy's the same way... Wife and I split the 'flight' and tried everything including the 20 and 23. Bar tender was awesome and only charged us $60 for the flight (we tipped him an extra $40), but I had the same assessment as you... To me, the 15 was more complex and had a smoother finish than the 20 and 23 (maybe I'm just not refined enough). I do enjoy ryes at times and enjoyed that as well; ended up buying a few bottles of it before retail pricing got stupid

 

Same here with ryes, although I found I do enjoy it in an old fashioned. So I had a bottle of Willet Rye I bought just because, and tried it in one a few nights ago and all I got from it was "band aids" taste and smell. Even my fiancé got the same aroma.
