New member here with a new 2024 Tundra and I'm new to the Toyota infotainment world but on other vehicles I've owned when smart/infotainment in dash systems the system would always return to the prior screen when a phone call ended via a paired Bluetooth device.

On my Tundra it just stays stuck on the phone and I have to hit multiple screen buttons to i.e. return to the radio screen.

Is there some setting I'm overlooking for the system to go back to its previous screen?

That's odd. I use CarPlay, and mine always returns to the previous screen after a call, which is usually Google Maps in satellite view.

Well I left off I am using a Samsung XCover Pro - so I'm on Android v13, not sure if the Android Auto is maybe the cause?

Perhaps. Dunno. This is the first time I've heard about this problem. Hopefully someone will chime in with more information.

I'm on Android as well and my screen doesn't switch back either. Sort of a pain but I don't get many calls. You can use the mode button on the steering wheel to cycle through to get back to the radio. Out of curiosity, what version of s/w does you truck have on the head unit? 2050, 2170?

I'm on 2050, to me it's very much a pain because it takes my attention away from driving trying to get it switched back.

I’m on CarPlay and it’s goes right back , sounds like an android thing not a Toyota thing

I don't think so, I use my phone on two other vehicles that have Infotainment systems with Android Auto too and neither have this issue, they return to the prior screen at the end of the call.

I had this issue on my 2020. Probably a different system being used, but very similar problem. I took it to the dealer and had them run updates which took care of the problem. They told me it was due to an IPhone update. No issues since.

Mine goes back to the previous screen after calls and even when I shut the truck off then restart it later.

It's not the phone call that's distracting, it's the screen getting reset and having to jump through multiple screens to get back to my normal screen that is distracting because of what seems like a software bug.

do you know anyone with an iPhone to try out CarPlay and see if it does the same thing?

could maybe rule out that aspect?

im not familiar with android at all, is there a setting somewhere in there for this perhaps?

The other issue I have too is when Android Auto is connected I lost all notifications from my phone except for ringing. I've checked everything imaginable, I've checked the radio/infotainment settings, I've checked the AA settings on the phone, I've checked my notifications/audio settings on my phone and nothing is muted or turned down... I'm ready to un-pair my phone because it's just too many dang headaches...

Sadly, a quick Google search showed this is a common problem with Android Auto, but I didn't find a definitive solution.

One guy claimed clearing the AA cache solved the problem for him.

I will give that a try and see if it makes any difference, I had not thought of trying that.

One thread suggested it was a problem between Bluetooth and Android Auto.

Do you have the same problem if you turn Bluetooth off and plug your phone into the USB?

@Matt2015Tundra the memory / cache clear of Android Auto on my phone appears to have fixed the issue! Thanks so much for the tip! I'll see what happens this week as I'm driving around town.

If you clear Android Auto will you still be able to use the truck system for getting and placing phone calls?

So long time no reply - been hectic at work - so no dice. The alerts/notifications worked for about 1 day and then back to dead silence.

Just highly disappointed, I use Android Auto in three other vehicles and this is the only one that has issues. Also in the other vehicles the Infotainment system correctly returns back to the previous screen after a call is finished. I have noticed about 1 in 10 times it will return to the previous screen but 90% it leaves me stranded in the Android Auto screen.

Came here today because I have this same problem and I use an IPhone 15. My issue also happens when I receive a text message notification. It leaves the screen I’m listening to but it never returns to where it was before getting the notification or call.

I ended up disabling the Android Auto features - I still have the Bluetooth enabled for calls but all other Android Auto features I have turned off. It has improved the call reliability / functionality and is at least basically usable and I'm getting my phone notifications again for emails and texts.
