Thanks! Trying not to threadjack, it's a 1960 beetle that I got in pretty bad shape back in 2011. It was spray painted white, had some ugly rust, had a very rotted and ripped interior, and was undriveable. But, it was 99% complete, and the engine did start.

I spent all of 2011 and most of 2012 (evening and nights) laboring over every single part I pulled off of it. When it was done, I had fun for a couple of summers taking it to vintage and VW shows. That got a little old for me, so now it's just a weekend driver for dorking around- winery visits, picnics, etc.

The roof rack is an original German roof rack with its original slats. Those racks are almost unobtainium now. It has a 40hp in it right now, but I have a 36hp (original equip) to throw in if I get the time- I reran the cable for the manual choke. Pics:

After maybe a year of sanding and doing r and r on the body. Had to sand all of that spraybomb primer off before paint.

I hated my choice of red rims for years. Finally had them powder coated and finished in the correct gray. So here's how it sits now.

Gorgeous. I'm no VW fan but I'd ride in that any day. Great job.

As planned, I got the front bumper shellz installed yesterday. I was a bit surprised at how frozen the 12mm bolts were under the bumper. These need to be removed for installation. Some patience and PB Blaster helped ease them out, and I wire wheeled them before reinstalling.

Im really pleased with how these installed. I see no visible chrome, and they look like factory equipment. Even the fit around the fog lights is perfect. Thanks Ecoological!

    That is really awesome.
Growing up one of my childhood friend's father worked on VWs, beetles and buses.
He was always working on them, his own and for others.
The friend ended up getting a VW bus for his first car.
A lot of memories in that bus..

They are a lot of fun. I grew up in a household with huge dodges and Buicks. My brothers were the first to get the restoration bug and they went for 50's chevys. I got bit by the VW bug and learned all about cars by keeping my first 66 running for my job and school.

I still think they're a lot of fun, and really happy my little brother and I hang onto these things so we can cruise around sometimes.

Also, my daughters were tiny when I got this bug and started working on it, and the were pretty fascinated with the rust bucket in the garage. Now they're driving age, and I got to teach my oldest to drive a stick shift in it.
