Power Stop Brake Pads

Anyone swap pads yet? This pulsating is annoying and looking for feedback, at least on pads for now. I've had good results with PS pads/rotors before, but still curious

pads won't cause pulsation that's a rotor issue not sure if there is a better option yet than OEM but I've had good luck with Powerstop.

 

not always the case. Rotor could be fine but could have uneven pad material on the rotor

 

Just a follow up post....went with napa UP 882853CR rotors and power stop 17-2439 pads from rockauto

 

how are the quality of the rotors? are they any heavier than the OEM ones?

Napa rotors on right. 20mm thick. Stock rotors are 19.83 inside the wear lip. Lip is 20mm thick


Napa rotors vents are 9.20mm X 8.43mm. Stocks are 8.99 X 8.23mm

Couldn't get the ebrake to retract via the 3 up and 3 down and hold sequence. Instead, I fed 12v to the ebrake motors. You'll need a very thin 17mm or needle nose vice grips to hold the slide pins while removing the caliper bolts. Very straightforward job other than the ebrake.

 

I tried that 3/3 after seeing it on Car Care Nut with no luck either. Theres got to be a trick somewhere. Maybe a plug in retractor tool with a battery in it.

 

Yep, tried it a few different ways and I could get the dang BRAKE to flash real quick but never heard the motors retract. Wired up one of my M12 batteries and retracted them that way. I agree with you though, there's got to be something we're missing

 

There’s no special trick for the electronic integrated parking brake on the 3rd gen. It’s just like a regular mechanical integrated parking brake.

Just got to turn the piston in with a brake caliper compressor tool. They like $25 from Amazon.

 

Did try that and it did spin but it kept twisting the seal. Didn't know that was the actual procedure. Thanks!

 

I’ve never waited this long for 3rd party shop manuals before on any vehicle. The level of tech on this truck, on all vehicles really, must have really caused a huge backlog for the editors of these.

 

I've used alldatadiy for other vehicles and it looks like they have something for 3rd gens already.

 

Thx. I’ll check that one out. All I found was a digital version from FM. $100 download. I’m highly skeptical though. Their vehicle brand list isn’t alphabetized correctly, all reviews are 5 stars including the ones that are 100% complaints. Very sketch. Asked them to send examples of the 3rd Gen Tundra book. We'll see

These are for the rear. Have had the fronts on for around 15k miles already. $210 for pads and rotors

 

How's the fronts on .. wear/performance/squeaks ect ? They look great for the price.

 

They have been great. No squeaks, no pulsating, just good stopping power.

 

So i was in a similar situation today. I go to this Asian auto mechanic for last 20 years and he had a trick up his sleeve. He had a 12v battery and the battery cable with stripped cables on one side. They just touched the stripped side to the parking brake plug and it released the parking brake.

 

I just put Porterfield 4S pads on my Tundra. After watching a few youtube videos, I figured out the rear brakes. My method:

1 Unplug the emergency brake and use a 12V battery with small jumper wires to release the emergency brake. Note polarity of switch so you know if you're tightening or loosening for step 3.
2. take the caliper loose from the bracket using a 14mm socket and skinny 17mm wrench. They're loctited so takes some effort.
3. use the 12V battery to power the emergency brake to full loose. You'll know when it's fully backed off when the caliper starts to rotate.
4. straighten out the piston boot which is now probably twisted from the piston rotating.
5. use the battery to rotate the piston to proper orientation (notches align radially with disk, one notch towards center of rotor, other notch outwards from rotor)
6. use channel locks or similar to compress the piston.
7. install pads and put it all back together (don't forget loctite on caliper bolts, probably should be red but at minimum use blue)
8. pump brakes, actuate emergency brake, drive forward and backwards hitting brakes until any error codes go away.
