    2010 Tundra, original owner.

tranny was throwing a P0894, dealership determined I need a new tranny. No big deal, truck had a lifetime power trane warranty when I bought it. So I battled gladiator style with the warranty company to cover the replacement.

Now the new tranny is in and the tech is saying it shifts hard into drive and the want to replace the ECM, ECM is not covered under the power trane warranty. $1300. I am pushing back because that is not a symptom the truck ever before. They are claiming the tranny damaged the Ecm.

any help, is appreciated before I wage a holy war.

Been down this road. Throw in a used ECM and roll on.

Interesting, if you care to share more info please feel free. Is the Ecm behind the glove box?

In my case it was a Ford transmission about 18 yrs old. Popped in a used ECM for like $75 and it was GTG.

Just ask them to explain how/why the ecm would be causing it to shift into gear hard.

Is there not an ECM reset / relearn procedure to follow (with Techstream) when these transmissions are replaced? I honestly am not sure as I haven’t had to go there on my Tundra, but there certainly was on the electronically controlled transmissions I’ve replaced.

Those were Allison 3000 series and larger, so a bit different, but not really other than size. The ECM learns and adapts to clutch pack wear (which equals slower to shift) minor internal leakage, etc. Drop a fresh reman in without telling the ECM, and they’d shift very harshly for quite a while as the ECM slowly adapted.

I would go for a test drive with the tech and confirm what they are saying. Second, as @landphil said, the ECM will want to learn a new component as it has not been aquatinted with it. Driving it should acclimate the two and smooth things out. BUT! I don't buy the tranny killed the ECM BS. It would be the TCM for the tranny not so much the ECM. The ECM is for the control of the motor and TCM is for the transmission. Just smells off to me, idk I could be wrong.

Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / Learning Value Reset,
Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / Fuel Density Learning Value Reset ?
Or just drive it. Should figure stuff out on it's own.

When I replaced my ab60e trans I had no issues. Didn't do a relearn just disconnected battery for 30 min. It will relearn the shifting values over time. Dealer should have done a learning value reset as previously stated.

OK, guys. I have an update and a BIG question. The truck is still at the dealership, and they still can't figure out the issue. This morning, as I was still lying in bed and pondering life, I remembered that when I did the lift/wheels/tires, I had to install a separate box (Hypertech 730103) to calibrate the speed-o. Could that cause problems for the dealership when they try to flash the ECM?

Now, the question is, do I tell them about it? I am kind of nervous about it because they have spent tons of hours troubleshooting this thing, and I think the service advisor told me the hourly labor rate is $200, which is totally outrageous. I need to get this figured out and come up with a plan of attack.
