I figure has happened 12 times in 10 months of ownership. Only if parked overnight on our inclined driveway at 3/4 of a tank. Goes to full tank on the next start. 10 sec manual reset and I’m good. Only once did it reset on its own on startup when the gauge was falsely around 1/2 a tank. (I just drove it knowing it was reading high) Don’t feel a fix will never come. Close to 300K trucks out there. Can’t be ignored.

Nose up or down? When mine occurred, it was nose up. Since then(6 months) I have been backing into our driveway(nose down) and the problem hasn't shown.

I know this isn't a solution, just mitigation until Toyota hopefully comes up with a fix.

I only had it happen once on the very first tank of gas, after resetting I have not seen the problem again. The dealer noted it in Aug 2023 and opened a tas case.

Since the problem only happened once its not a personal problem for my truck.

I feel for the others that have it happen over and over. Certainly using every avenue including a lemon law claim if applicable is fine if the situation warrants. Lemon law is not the answer for everyone. The dealers themself don't really care as its not their money. Every manufacturer buys back 1000's of vehicles a year, its not really a big deal for them.

    Its not officially fixed until:

Toyota release a TSB/Recall/Service Campaign noting a fix.
Toyota says they addressed it in the new model year though a semi-official means. Typically a You tube video where someone does a Q and A with engineer.

3 years and no fix!!! My 2011 highlander w 170k on it has had about 4 recalls over the years. My 2022 tundra probably had 5 n now my new 2024 has 2 already.
Lemon law got me a newer truck and saved thousands as prices are dropping from post Covid n supply chain issues.

Great.. I back into my driveway and it gives me a nice nose up. Not quite to 3/4's of a tank, but once there will see what happens..

Only nose up. I’ve tested both ways. I figure it’s when the fuel flows back towards the sensor. Park flat now. Decided I enjoy the driveway clear anyway. It reset the other day in a sloped parking lot. Can’t escape it totally

If it comes down to it I will! ha I am surprised Toyota hasn't figured out a real fix yet. Well, they probably have, but it probably isnt cheap for them to do. Especially if every truck will qualify for it.

I knew I would jinx myself by saying "only once". Today it happened again because I didn't pay attention to orientation parking at a restaurant.

2024 Tundra TRD Pro. I have this issue as well. Wife filled up truck (22.5 gallon tank) and went to visit family (400 mile round trip). Got back home and fuel gauge was just below 1/2 tank and Distance to Empty (DTE) showed 160 miles. I knew there was NO WAY it got that kind of mileage. To be honest my 2024 Tundra gets the same gas mileage as my 2011 w/ a V-8 (God rest its soul).
So I went online and saw the reset people were doing (leave in Drive and turn off and put in park). Sure enough guage went drom 1/2 to 1/4 tank and DTE went from 160 to 87 miles. Went to town the next day and ran some errands and went to fuel up before coming home. DTE was 60 miles and gauge at approx 1/8 tank when I went to fuel up. According to gas pump I put in 22.9 GALLONS in my 22.5 GALLON tank. So even though the DTE said I had 60 more miles to go I was actually running on fumes!!!!.
Called my dealer and service department was aware of the 2022 TSB. Told me to bring it in ASAP and they will check it out. So at least I will have it documented.

I'm the TRD Pro and all Hybrid models only come with the 32Gal Gas tank, and that would match what you put into it.

But its good to get everything documented.

Get your dealer to give you a receipt showing date n miles and fuel gauge faulty. Protects you for a lemon law replacement when a year from now it’s still not fixed. Tracking your fuel w pen n paper not fun. I was just filling up n resetting trip A odometer. At about 400 miles I would go fill it up. If towing then you have a bigger guessing game on running empty.
2 years plus and still no fix. Still making the trucks w known faulty parts.
When somebody going down the highway at 65 mph has their truck run out of gas and turn off and cause an accident this issue might get more attention. It’s a safety issue for sure.

Toyota hasn’t even told us to not park the trucks on any kind of incline. Probably highlights liability and acknowledges the problem even more.

After about 4 parking jobs and 4 full tanks showing then a lemon law gets you eligible for a newer truck.
This company is way better than this and Tundras are starting to gain market share it seems. See more n more of them in the road.
    Simple troubleshooting it seems.
Was the fuel tank relocated after 2021 models?
Did they start getting fuel tank parts from different vendor?
Was this a technology upgrade w software and it’s not working?
Does the start up sequence for when the tanks reads the fuel need to be adjusted?
Does the tank need another sensor to help decide the fuel level?

Have not noticed this happening but I'm one of those that fills up once down 100 miles or close to it. Hardly even pay attention to fuel level. Trip B gets reset at every fill up.

You are correct. Original dealer told me 22.5 but service dept at my local dealership confirmed the larger tank size. Since at fuel up, my DTE was saying 60 miles until empty and the truck only took 22.9 gallons (and since she has never taken much over 20 gallons every time she gets low on fuel) they did a check on the system and then made a call to Toyota because of the 2022 issue. This problem HAS BEEN SHOWING up in the 2024 Tundras and is not just unique to me. Service guy informed me there is no fix currently, but it is documented. He apologized and said we will have to wait for a fix from Toyota to come out and that he sincerely hopes it does not take over a year like it did for the 2022.

Mine did it yesterday (600 miles on it). Went from 281 remaining to 401 or so. I'll let the dealer know when I take it in for the first oil change

If u wait till oil change you will be giving up a significant buy back value under lemon laws. Goes from FIRST TIME DEALER TRIED TO FIX IT. Based on mileage otherwise you will be charge like a rental rate.

Since 2022 this has been happening with no fix from Toyota engineering. Your gambling on a fix this year or 2025 or beyond.

    As information.

1st Tundra was a 22 Limited. It had the fuel Guage issue. It was a PIA but did the reset and moved on.

Traded up to a 23 TRD Pro. No fuel Guage issue

So, the questions: What is the difference?

    • Mechanical with different parts (Sending Unit)
    • Fuel tank configuration.
    • electronic programing

23 are having the issues, but even more randomly resetting to full.

ours maybe once every 2-3 months will reset to full. parking nose down in the driveway resolves it until the next time.

profile pic shows the nose up in the driveway

Does anyone know if Toyota delivers their vehicles to dealership w regular air and allow the dealers to DEFLATE ALL TGE TIRES and put in NITROGEN n charge hundreds of dollars. This breaking the factory seal of the tires n rims! How much does nitrogen really cost.
Guess Toyota paint on vehicles might be weak since dealer tried to charge $400 for “paint renewer cleaner n paint sealant”

If yours is a later ‘23 build date, it may’ve been updated. Mine is a Nov ‘22 build and I get it on just about every tank. Only time it doesn’t is if I use more than 1/4 tank in a trip.

My 22 had the fuel gauge issue but I never let the fuel get that low so it wasn't an issue. My 24 does not have the problem.

@ryanwgregg: How is this different between a 22 Limited and 23 TRD Pro?

@donia: 23 Tundra with October 22 Build date.
