I installed my summer tires a few days ago and my tire pressure warning light on. I believe the tires/rims have the TPMS sensors. Is there any way to determine which sensor is bad? On my 08 MDX, you could look at each tire pressure.

Is there a reset button ? If you tried that, usually tire shops will have a scan gauge and go to each tire and check signal..

The sensor IDs need to be loaded into the ECM.

The same tires and rims were on last year with no issues. Ran different tires/rims for the winter. Does it still need to be reset?

Thanks. Can I do it myself with a cheap OBD2 scanner, or does the dealer need to do it?

You would need something capable of reading and writing to the ECU. A few of us have the Autel TS508 but it's a couple hundred $$. Do you have a Discount Tire near you? They will often do it for free.

Yes it needs to be reset..If you have the original wheel sensors, 2007 ?, then you may be over due for replacement. The internal batteries last about 5-10 years.

Thanks for all the advice. Tires are finished, so have to get new ones soon. When I do, I’ll ask the shop if they can reset it. Got a quote yesterday for a set of Toyo AT3 305/65/18. Was CAN$512/tire, and CAN$2,480 total. Ouch!

My winter tires are on the factory original rims, so I’m assuming so are the sensors. Never occurred to me that they had batteries. Lol! I’m an idiot. I did ask the parts manager at the Toyota dealer who I know if an aftermarket sensor will work and he said yes if it was a certain kind. Can’t remember though what kind he mentioned.

I assume parts guy is correct. You don't want to have to mess with the sensors once installed. My tire guy also mentioned a certain brand and showed me, but I also forgot the brand..

Well, the TPMS warning light went out, but I now have the ABS light, and flashing 4 Hi, and VSC warning lights. Hooked up my OBD2 scanner, and it is showing the left front ABS sensor which I recently replaced. D’oh!
