Admittedly I'm an old guy, but just went to my local Carson City NV dealership for some longlife (100%) coolant ($40/gallon). :spending:

I also priced ATF ($25/quart) because I'd like to do a fluid change on the trany, maybe 12-13 quarts so $350 with tax, just for trany fluid?? :annoyed:

I was shocked at the prices and wanted to check with you guys as to if these are normal?

I'm leery of purchasing anything from Amazon these days as there have been so many reports of fake stuff. Any suggestions on other options to purchase Coolant or ATF a bit cheaper?

As far as the coolant goes, it's undiluted. So, theoretically you're buying 2 gallons. Assuming you have the V8, you'll need somewhere between 2-3 gallons. Manual says 12.3 quarts. When I did my timing belt and water pump I think I put in 2 1/2 ish gallons. The manual also states "Toyota Genuine Long Life Coolant" or equivalent. I used Zerex Asian vehicle 50/50 formula. That will save you some $.
As far as the ATF goes, not sure where you're getting 12-13 quarts. A drain and fill is only going to require UP TO 2.1 quarts, and a full change is not necessarily recommended unless you're driving under "Special Operating Conditions" which means you're towing A LOT. I also think you could get away with a different brand of ATF, as long as it's Type T-IV.

Paid about $30 ish/gal and about $8 ish/qt in OKC about 6 months back. Still a rip off IMO, so yeah, you are getting taken for a ride.

I don't buy Toyota fluids for that exact reason. Zerex Asian coolant and Valvoline maxlife ATF (gasp I know), but I've had really good luck with it in 4 toyotas that "require" WS ATF.

$25/quart sounds like a bargain compared to the $40/quart used in the RAM tranny. As others have said, find an equivalent make from another manufacturer.

We all know Toyota doesn't have their own refineries and coolant facilities. They buy from Global manufacturers and re-package it with the Toyota name on the bottle. Bonus points to whomever finds out who makes Toyota ATF and coolant.

I had no choice but to eat at 5 Guys on Tuesday. Little bacon cheeseburger, small fries, small drink set me back $22. Absurd.

I'm not a fan of transmission flushes.

Just drain and fill. Takes about 4.5 qts to replace what you drained out of the pan.

I do drain and fills every other year. I do a lot of towing, so this gives me comfort.

I use Asian equivalent coolant as well. Whatever is on sale.

It's undiluted. 50/50 dilution ratio=2 gallons. Math much? WTF?

Ever since I have been a little kid antifreeze has been sold in gallon jugs, then somewhere along the way about mid 90's someone decided to start selling it diluted, then everybody started selling it diluted. If a gallon jug of antifreeze is undiluted it is one gallon not two. It becomes two gallons when you add you add water. If undiluted he is only paying for antifreeze and not water, which is the smart thing to do. Why is this so difficult?

Geezus. Way to get wrapped around the axle in semantics. Do you use coolant diluted or undiluted? I rest my case.
