I’ve been going back and forth on how to color match the mustache on my limited. I decided to diy paint it. I think it turned out okay but we’ll see how long it holds up. For less than $40 of paint and supplies I’m happy!

I've been wanting to color match the mustache since I picked up mine. Looks good but maybe a little off in color? Could just be the photo or shadows. Either way it looks way better than chrome! How long form start to finish?

So when are you going to color-match it?

Yeah the color is a bit off. Looks much closer in daylight than at night. Took the course of a day between prep and letting the coats dry. Fun project, but only about 50% confident it will hold up.

Did you prep it prior to painting or use an adhesion promoter? If you have to redo it I would recommend scuffing gel and a gray 3M scuff pad, but you might have to sand off the paint if it starts to flake making that step not needed. 400 grit wet sand paper would probably be the best to do that.

I don't know what plastic this piece is made out of but this is what adhesion promoters are used for, from the internet:
Parts that are made from Olefin Polymers must have an adhesion promoter used before refinishing to assure that the finish will not delaminate later.

Tried again. Turns out there are 2 versions of the lunar rock 6x3 code… color match is perfect and the outcome is great!

I did prep by sanding and then used a metal primer. When I went back and sanded for redoing the job with the right color, adhesion was great (no chipping off) so I think that the sanding and primer worked well.

Thanks! I’m really happy with it. It’s a spraxmax product mixed at a local auto paint shop
