If the back doesn't come off, it's not a good 4runner.

And only the 1st gens were able to go topless. I think the 4R has done well with each generation pertaining to the eras in which they were released, and a half step ahead in trending styles. For those thinking the new 4R is awkward looking, give it 5 years, when the other manufacturers catch up, these will blend right in.
you guys notice the snorkel? I know @The Black Mamba did.
It is kinda strange how the rear door is half of the rear fender flare, or vice versa… whatever. Weird.

Sideshot kinda looks like a Subee outback on steroids. Do love that color tho.

Yes I did. It was also the first thing I noticed on the taco when it was unveiled at the auto show. Sort of a throwback to the LC of the day.

I really like the Frontiers. They’re definitely not a Tacoma… but they’ve done the “simple and robust truck” thing well for a long time. I especially like these with the roof rack:
    IMG_1295.jpg

One of my teachers in high school had one with well over 200k. He loved that it was a truck- it hauled stuff. Did it’s job.

Edit: I like the XTerras too. Those are cool. My GF’s uncle has one. There’s something admirable (to me) that comes with driving a simple and robust vehicle even when you have the option for something fancier.

My step dad had one nearly identical to that one. Same situation. Over 200k miles when he sold it. It did require a fair amount of work to get there though. It got pink milkshake at one point. Fairly good truck overall though. Adequate power too.

Noah sent over some more of this guy's videos cutting aftermarket parts open, and generally showing out-of-box problems with non-OEM. Y'all have probably already seen the 1st one, but it's a good precursor to the 2nd. Enjoy.

I had a 2006 Frontier "King" cab. The 4l V6 was strong but the cheap interior was shit and it had the turning radius of an 18 wheeler lol.

New 4Runner looks kind of like a baby Sequoia. Overall I think it looks pretty sharp. I love 4Runners. My favorite is the second gen, gosh those were lovely--if they had had a third-row seat option I would find and daily a bright blue metallic one. Wife owned a really cool fifth-generation TRD with third-row seats that we sold during Covid after it inflated like $10k, sold that and got into a top-of-the-line Honda minivan, then when that inflated stupidly, sold that for a screaming deal on a used 4WD Platinum Sequoia. Though I do hate that the 4Runners are sort of "replacing" the Land Cruiser (unless you want a plastic-y Lexus version).

I think the new T4R looks sweet and it's about time they got a new engine. They ran that 1GR for 21 years. And let's be honest, the fifth gen was just a reskinned fourth gen without a V8 option. Shits for the birds.
I think Toyota missed the opportunity to compete with Bronco by bringing back the removable roof

if chevy busts out a solid axle k5 or dodge brings a n/a hemi ramcharger, they win. If i wanted something that sounded like a lesbian, i'd hang out with lesbians, and drive a subaru.

i'd imagine 2nd or 3rd hand buying one of them would have been heckled. Some folks arent limited, and some folks arent terminators. They oughtta stay in their lane. I call my buddy out for not being a ranch hand, and my brother for not being high or country. Hell, i own up to nova, blazer, and titan...and pajero or raider...lol.

GM and Ford have really dropped the ball. I would say Dodge has been OK, but they're starting to slip too. Honda fucked up the NSX and Prelude, and the new Integra is too damn expensive. Toyota, well, we know about the 3rd gen Tundra. The new MR2 doesn't look like a proper mid engine car, and I'll bet it's electric. I haven't heard much about the new 400ZX or whatever they're calling it so we'll see how Nissan is doing.

Looks like I'm a Kia guy now.

Blame outside sources for most of the changes in the automotive world. As soon as safety and emissions regulations took over, cars have become more efficient and less polluting. They’ve become safer and heavier too. All the old designs won’t work anymore. Today’s car is one big compromise.

The taillights and rear end look terrible to me. The gaping maw in the front ain’t great either. It drives pretty nice except for the abysmal turning radius. I’m not sold, but I don’t hate it. I almost bought a 22 when they came out. Just wasn’t getting the old Toyota feels for the new unknown engine. So i went with the used 2019. Glad I did. May not keep it though.

I think buying a pre-pandemic-supply-chain-issues vehicle is the only smart choice today. Period. I trust almost nothing nowadays made after late 2020 - early 2021. A global shift happened in 2021, and I don’t think we will see quality products available for purchase again for at least another decade or two.

I live in a cultural rainbow mecca. I can confidently tell you, it’s granolas driving the Subies now. Lesbians are flocking to Broncos the way gay men were flocking to the Miata and then Wrangler style Jeeps (sorry, don’t know Jeeps) after that. You’ll hafta get with the times on that one.

Hell yeah, best part is you don’t even need a key, or to even buy it, you just take it. But then you gotta worry about it burning you or your house down if it’s an SUV, or someone else stealing it. :(

Has anyone shopped for insurance recently? I was looking out our renewal and comparing it to previous ones. Since 2022 my car insurance is up 68%. Kelly backed into another car 2 years ago so I expected our rates to go up but that seemed excessive. It was the first claim for either of us in almost 15 years.

I told my agent it's time to shop around. He said this is the worst insurance market he's seen in 25 years but agreed to look around. He ended up finding another option with the same coverage levels that will save me $762/year for auto, $240 for home and $150 for umbrella. $1152 total. It's a company I'm not familiar with but he's been using them a long time and his parents also use them. We're making the switch.

Seriously. You take an iconic mall-rated offroad vehicle and sacrificially convert it into some CAFE (acronym for "corporate average fuel economy" under federal law) standard crapmobile so ignorant schmucks will buy them and then you have enough indulgences to be able to sell more full-size trucks with "bad" fuel economy.

With USAA thankfully I don’t have to.

I am curious though. Who is the other company?

A lot of people don’t understand how bad CAFE is (or even what it is) or the story behind why or how that’s why trucks spent decades being small then suddenly exploded into monster sizes. It’s utter horseshit, someone needs to amend out the loopholes. Sloppy legislation.

I wish I qualified. Only family member that served is my brother. I don't think that counts? Have your rates not gone up? That's good.

Switching from Allstate to a company called Donegal. I used a local agent that shops around for the best rates for me. I've tried going directly to companies in the past but the local agent always seemed to get better rates.

I hate Allstate. Rate hikes with USAA haven’t been outlandish for us. Car has stayed flat on average, it went down during lockdowns and went up when we got out of lockdowns, probably because ppl forgot how to drive and were driving like idiots. That may change after one of those idiot drivers forced me to tire-check the front end of a parked vehicle recently (I did the right thing and left my info). I guess we will see.

I had horrible experiences with Progressive in the past, and respectable experiences with State Farm. I’ve also never heard of Donegal.
