Kind of how the dealers in Nashville are. I refuse to buy from the dealers around me since they all inflated prices during the pandemic, now it is biting them in the ass. I now only buy from one dealer about 2 hours away and since I’m still in the free maintenance period I will be driving there to do the maintenance. Solid dealership in a small town that actually gives a crap about their customers. Definitely a hard thing to find nowadays but happy there is one somewhat close to me

100% on the dealers in Nashville. Absolutely worthless. My worst experience was with Cool Springs. They tried the ol' switcheroo on me in financing when I bought a used Prius from them in 2018 or so. If you search cool springs and restrict it to my posts, you'll find the whole story. I will never step foot in that dealership again.

I also called Beaman a few weeks ago to see if they carried a part for my 570 so I wouldn't have to order it (online is always cheaper than the 3 dealers in Nashville, but sometimes you get a window of time to work on your vehicle, and a quick trip to pick up the part is worth the local premium).

After the guy looked it up, he said they could order it for me for a certain price that I quickly realized was exactly 150% of MSRP. They add 50% to MSRP on parts! Meanwhile, Ourisman's online storefront prices are usually 40-60% of MSRP. Unreal.

I was just at Nashville North a while back getting coolant and trans fluid that weren't too unreasonably priced. I saw three service team members chasing each other around the shop yelling profanities and laughing, throwing a small box at each other while hard rock was blaring from a stereo loud enough to hear inside the dealership with the door to the service lanes closed. While I was walking out, one guy (a kid, really) gets into a new 4Runner parked about 50 ft back from the service bays, floors it up to the door, slams the brakes, and throws it into park while the truck lurches as he hops out to yell at someone else about not opening the service bay door for him.

Maybe I'm getting old, but that nonsense does not instill confidence that any of the service work performed at that dealership is done properly.

Cool springs Toyota is the worst! I bought my 2021 trd pro Tacoma there and I loved the truck but the whole experience was crappy. Honestly should have walked but at the time they gave me over what I paid for on my 2017 Tacoma I was trading in. But I had my trd pro Tacoma ceramic coated and the first time I took it there I told the service adviser to not wash the truck cause it was ceramic coated. He kept saying, I got you don’t worry. And sure enough when the delivered the truck back to me it was washed. Emailed the head of the service department and they implemented a new thing to put a sticker on the windshield to not wash vehicles people didn’t want washed. Haven’t been to any other dealers in Nashville since than. Robert’s Toyota in Columbia was charging like 10-15k market adjustments during the craziness and tell everyone to avoid that place.

if you don’t mind the drive to Paris, TN look up Pepper’s Toyota. Bought my wife’s 4runner from them in 2022 and bought my 2024 tundra from them in February. I worked with Amy both times and they never pressured to buy and no bull crap add ons that are worthless. I probably could have found a cheaper tundra but I refuse to give my money to any of the Nashville dealers anymore.

Dealers aside, Toyota has made the highest quality vehicles for decades. As they have grown to be the largest manufacturer in the world, they have had some growing pains, but still largely put out a very good product. Expecting QC to remain the same with higher output is not reasonable, unless costs skyrocket even more.

I can't stand my local dealers, and tend to drive 45 minutes to a dealer in Idaho to get service that is somewhat acceptable. I also refuse to buy from them and purchased my Tundra from a dealer 3 hours away. I do most repairs and maintenance myself. Not because I want to or because it saves me money. I do it because I do not trust most mechanics to do it right.

I have taken multiple vehicles in for Toyotacare "free" maintenance. Each time I asked them to grease zerks. Not one time did they actually do it. On my last visit, I asked them to check the tire wear on my TRD Pro as it has the alignment issue and I already measured my tires with a gauge. They report showed the wrong tread depth with no uneven wear reported. Dealer service departments will do the bare minimum to skate by unfortunately.

Germain in Naples fortunately has been pretty decent to deal with for as long as I can remember. A lot of the east coast dealers jack up prices and drive buyers over here, so demand is/was pretty high. Service department is tolerable. Should consider myself lucky that the local dealer isn't as bad as some of the others sound.

I think this poster has brought up a very concerning point about the cruise control and we should take note!

I never use the cruise but if I did then I would have to look at trading in my TuRD for DuDDge or FiReD.

I feel the need to stick up for the underdog and just trade it! :)

EDITED: Mixed up the new poster threads and this one was for the "Cruise Control", up here we don't have any bad dealerships or sketchy service centers! Just all around great service!

No, I meant what I said. Based in my experience, they all cut corners at a minimum. There may be better dealers, but I have lived and/or had Toyotas serviced by dealers in OR, WA, CA, ID, UT, MO, IN, IL, DC, MD, and SD. In every case, many of the services were overlooked or done poorly. Some are still acceptable to me, but none really have accountability to do things how they should.

I've had some lie and tell me I need filters when they were basically new and I even had one show me a fouled spark plug they "removed" and suggested I replace them all when I had just put in all NGKs a couple months prior. Plenty of stories of dealers breaking the motorized recirc door on land cruisers when changing cabin filters and not notifying owners. Had dealers tell me I need new pads when I had just replaced pads and rotors. Another overtightend my oil filter resulting in splashed oil everywhere in my new Tacoma. That was fun.

The most recent is not measuring tread wear as their service invoice said they did, or not knowing how to do it, so lazy or incompetent. They also unbuckled my child's car seat and did not reattach it, which I figured out when it flew across the back seat during a quick stop (thankfully no kid in it). They did at least own up to it when I brought it to their attention. The trip prior to that they said they'd have me out in under an hour (5k service, no oil change), and after two hours they had not even started, so i had to leave.

I had one dealer destroy the leather on my steering wheel and shifter during Takata replacement (4Runner), and we had to fight for them to fix it. Another damaged my rock warrior wheel changing a TPMS sensor then tried to hide it by putting it in the spare location. While I had a matching spare, the spare was noticeably dirty from being in the spare location, so thankfully I brought up the issue before I left the dealer.

Yes, some dealers are better than others, but they all seem to be fine with cutting corners on basic maintenance, and many seem to encourage a spirit of flat lies to make $$$. Thankfully I have not had any major repairs on any of my Toyotas, which is why I have had so many of them.

The issue is not only the recall, but the dealer not been capable to fix it.

Some months ago, had a recall for something on the fuel line, I called the dealer for an appt, and once there was told that he cannot handle it, because the tank's fuel level was not adequate. Sorry that's not proper customer care.

I had a similar situation with my fuel line temp fix. I had to advised the scheduler that I had more fuel because my fuel gauge issue not registering more than a 1/4 tank. Then I reset the gauge and it went up to 3/4. I told the scheduler and she said to burn off some fuel and reschedule the temp fix. It seems that the dealerships don't want to deal with the extra weight from the fuel to make that work harder.

It is actually stated in the notice that the dealership should remove the fuel if there is too much and put it back afterwards but they don't seem to want to do that. Maybe it is an issue with perceived fuel theft or some other liability.

I had a Toyota service center once tell me my 2017 Tacoma (had about 40k miles at the time) needed new brake pad for the rear disk brakes hahaha. I looked and said you do know the Tacoma has drum brakes in the rear and he had to go out and check to make sure I was right. Not saying I’ve had this kind of service at all of them but that one really made me laugh when he came back and told me I was right and they were still good.

Yeah, that kind of stuff immediately shoots their credibility. At the very least that is incompetence and stupidity, but could quite easily be sleazy tactics to fatten a bill. The trouble is that either is a bad thing for somebody working on a vehicle. If they are dumb they can fuck it up. If they are sleazy they can't be trusted to have actually done any of the work they say they completed. I hate doing mechanic work, but I'm turning into a DIY for it all because people are garbage.

My opinion is service departments are very important. After my Dodge experience and how shity that was at the dealership, I will never own another in my life..especially in the city I live in. Sucks because the truck was great until they totally messed it up and didn't fix my motor after wadding it up.

Same with Ford in my city. All my rock crawler buddies have fords and have had nothing but problems at the dealerships...even for basic maintenance. I almost purchased this truck:

    IMG_4017.jpg

Our Chevy/gmc dealerships are great here. I have only had two recalls in 8 years, so my current truck hasn't seen the inside of the dealership much either . Regardless, this isn't my first GM product either. I only recommend certain GM trucks, so I'm not a fanboy either.

Toyota in my city gets a C+ rating from my family and my wife is not allowed inside the walls of those dealerships due to prior experiences.

    Sure rub it in!

I have found, generally, that things I enjoyed which I turned into work quickly lost their luster. There’s something about having to do something versus doing it for the sake of enjoying it that ruined it for me.
