Hey Sniv, see post #668. :D It doesn't speak to the modification, but states it will be available outside the kit.

Not finish install, but a little Turbo Charging a Tundra porn. Be mindful that I dropped the camera down well below the front valance to get the photo of the downpipe.

Tomorrow and Monday are wiring the AEM Meth Injection and Innovate SCG-1 controller.

Small snag on the oil return line (my temp replacement is the red hose hanging down) and Jesse is addressing Monday (I just emailed him a little while ago about it). As a result, fire up will likely be Tuesday.

No, I did not ask for a matching air filter to my battery and washer fluid, but I'll take it!

Nice work! I love following build threads like this. About how many hours have you been at it to get to this point?

Good question on hours. Actual work, probably around 40. Distractions, cold tape, random parts store runs to buy more stainless bands for heat wrapping and redoing some work is probably at 15 hours so far.

Edit: I suspect full install, for a DIYer in a just barely too short garage like mine would be at or below 40 hours when all is said and done. Much much less with any extra hands at all, as I've done this 100% solo.

    Thank you.

Pivoting from the physical to the mental parts of the install now so I'm hoping it stays this clean.

Considering the limited amount of actual modification to the vehicle, I'm rather impressed so far.

Mentally so far, my tow mirrors required nearly as much effort. Physical, this has been challenging at times until the hardware was installed. Now I'm clean and cruising (10 steps of the install today!!)

Again, really envious of future people being able to leverage my lessons learned.

Amazing work this weekend!!! Boy the install really does come together at the end and look super clean :)

I am sure every tundra owner even slightly interested in this kit appreciates all of your hard work and what that means to making the process easier for the next owner to DIY the install. We certainly do!

Oh boy, some serious flow. I'd bet on a 4.5" you are 625-650HP capable with this upgraded sensor!

Since we have only tested it on our Stage 1 straight shot coupler, we can only extrapolate the info and give an estimate.

Stage 1 MAF coupler - 3.4" ID 4.9v at 4.5 PSI and 440 Wheel HP, add back the estimated DYNO loss of 15% and you get 517HP (440/.85). Next find the percent in flow increase from the 3.4" to the 4.5" which is ~25% (3.4/4.5), take the 25% and multiply it by our estimated flow at 3.4" of 517 and you get 646.5 HP from the motor. (517x1.25). So we would suspect this MAF on a 4.5" pipe would be capable of about 650HP before hitting 5v. Hope that makes sense...

Oh, this would be on a blow through turbo set up, as we don't quite understand what makes the differences in volt max on the SC and Turbo... but most SC guys being draw through, aren't seeing the volt to HP we are seeing. So the HP range maybe much higher for you SC guys :)

Running a bunch of goodies and a GM 95mm TB. I'm not a built forged/engine so I'm taking it easy for now. Been down that road.

I really appreciate all your effort. I will be one of them. :) I have everything ready to start a six in. lift kit that I was planning to do few weeks ago, but I want to start the turbo kit install as soon as I finish the lift kit! A lot of challenges for me as I will be doing it as DIY install on my garage. It looks like the cross over pipe won't fit out of the box due to the front driveshaft position after the front differential drop, but I will make all necessary mods to make it happen :). My intention is to share the whole experience including detailed videos too!

    Lift kit:
    20240331_222326.jpg

Cross over pipe box... (Trying to keep it closed, because I am tempted to install the turbo and forget about the lift! :))

Nice!! I've heard about you! :) Staying tuned to see how this goes with that lift. IIRC, there is a clean place to make a cut on both sides of the driveshaft.

The videos would be absolutely awesome. I have been taking a bunch of photos along the way because the silver shows everything better than black, especially in the engine bay. Looking forward to seeing what Jesse does with all of that and my notes. But! Video is gold. Can't wait

Also, skip the lift!!! 3" without going through all of the cutting for the 6" is where it's at. Better ride quality, more options for post lift support/replacement, and you can still fit a pretty sweet range of tire sizes. Just my .02 so you can get to making those videos. :)

The voltages do not change, the sensor is and the ECU needs a 0-5v signal. The magic is in the scaling inside the sensor, it doesn't reach the 5v max until more flow passes the sensor. If you look at the picture on the product page, you can see the flow -vs- volt scaling sheet that comes with each sensor. Keep in mind. The sheet is based on flow and volts scaling for our 3.4" ID stage 1 coupler, so if you are larger, those #s will increase by the same percentages as the increase in ID size. Most any tuner, that can scale for a larger MAF housing, should easily understand what needs to happen to make that sensor work! Thanks for your interest!

Yea I follow all of that, I'm just trying to wrap my head around how much of a difference the sensor is vs stock. Showing the flow rates vs voltage doesn't help me much when I don't know those same metrics for the stock sensor.

That's why I was asking when a stock sensor maxes out, if this sensor is dropped in what's the new voltage. The range is still 5V, but the new lower voltage at the same flow rate would explain how much voltage room we gain, which is all I really care about. Or if you have that same sheet you show but for the stock sensor so there's a baseline to compare against.

Looks like it's roughly a 30% increase in flow for the 5V range based on your values and assuming HPT values are correct for a stock intake:

Hey snivilous, thanks for chiming in with the info. Yes the numbers at a quick glance and what we see are about a 30% gain in flow before 5v. So thanks! This is again on a 3.4" ID MAF tube size. So anyone going larger, will see the same 30%, but it will be 30% of the larger MAF in terms of top flow (HP) at 5v.

    Slow progress today. Sort of.

I ended up in a time crunch and Jesse offered to adjust his schedule and save me nearly 1/2 of my drive to them. Huge thank you, Jesse! Great meeting you in person.

While handing off a few pieces to get me back on track, he happened to have his daily driver with him, which happens to be one of the test subjects. He kindly took me for a ride. I'm even more excited now than I was before I started the project. Smooth is the best way I'd describe the power.

Alright, items accomplished (and failed ) today.

    Accomplished:
    • Oil return line swapped and checked off the list
    • Exhaust clamp installed and checked off the list
    • Meth tank installed
      • After mocking up the intended location, I realized it would be a PITA for me to access due to my tri-fold tonneau cover, so I moved it to the back of the bed
      • This will be much better for me, but things began to unravelled from here
    • AEM pump mounted and soldered in
    • AEM Meth kit wiring is laid out and required lines are routed through the firewall and into the cab
    • Vacuum line for AEM and SCG controllers routed through the firewall
    • Got oil for a safety net 500 mile break in, which will be perfect since the truck is about 600 miles shy of 50k and I can keep my "on the fives" schedule.

Fails to be tackled another day:
    • Wiring a 30' run of power and ground on a recently rust Prevention coated vehicle absolutely blows. This set me back a lot of time.
    • Due to my relocation of the tank, I needed more hose than what came with the system. Jesse helped me out on this one because he had some in stock. Not 3 zip ties in after running the length of the truck, I nicked the line with the knife and completely hosed myself because now neither section of line is long enough. Awaiting more line.
    • Wiring failures all day. This isn't hard, but this isn't a project to get into when having an off day.
    • I don't like redoing work, and that's what a lot of today was. None of this is a fault of the kit or Turbokits or Jesse since the AEM and SCG installs are completely standard, per the manufacturer instructions.
So, I was planning to have it started tomorrow AM. That's now pushed to Thursday AM at best due to personal obligations. I just got in from the garage a little while ago and tomorrow just isn't happening, unfortunately.

    Thanks again, Jesse.

Great meeting you as well Brian! Glad you were able to get first-hand experience and understanding what even a little bit of boost does for this truck!!

Nice relocation on the AEM tank, looks clean and as you said, easier for you. I like it!

I feel your pain on the wiring. Usually, the least enjoyable part on any of my personal vehicle builds. Nice work pushing through everything.

I also just emailed you a quick update on the tune revision for our 2014. Looks like we picked up ~5-10 HP/TQ in the mid-range (according to the logs), so I have gone ahead and updated your file as well and will be ready when you are.

Thanks again Brian for all the effort and feedback.

It's been a pleasure and I can't wait. So close to the finish line!

I'll compile my notes and associated photos for you at the end, along with timelines for each step. I severely underestimated the last 2 steps.

Can't wait to start testing and seeing how the logs look with the trailer in tow!
