So Harbor Frieght has released a offroad light very similar to @Baja Designs LP6 series at a fraction of the price. I actually think this is gross. Baja Designs may be top of their market in offroad lighting but in the grand scheme of things they are not a huge company. I think the fact that Harbor Frieght would single them out directly on their website is a low blow unless @Baja Designs is somehow involved. I enjoy supporting American businesses especially those with exceptional customer service.

    Whats ur thoughts? IMG_5537.png

I mean, I like harbor freight. With today’s ridiculous prices on everything ever since Covid, I’ll take the better deal most every time. People are still gonna buy Baja if they want the name brand stuff so who cares. There’s more serious problems out there is my two cents.

Apples and oranges. No way will the HF light perform close to BD. But if you just want the look without functionality, there are tons of knock off LP9's out there already so I'm not surprised to see something along the lines at HF.

I think it's great actually. Like mentioned, the people who want to have the cool factor of expensive bling, warranty, performance, will still buy the Baja Designs. Most IG, YouTube, racer, want to be racer, premium etc. builds aren't going to buy these cheap lights.

Honestly, I've been thinking of buying a set of these HF lights for ditch lights. Cause I won't care as much if they get stolen.

    Imitation is flattery.

Someone buying that light was never gonna buy a Baja Designs light anyway. I doubt that cuts into their sales much if at all. And as others said, this isn't the beginning of the Chinese light bars.

A better conversation would be their floor/off-road jacks versus others.

just so you know baja designs sources good bit of their components overseas. They are assembled in Mexico. They just undergo extensive quality control in their process.

When I was looking for harness for these HF lights, I chose the BD harness with 2 relays (so you wouldn't be able to turn on both high and low beams). It works perfectly with these lights. You don't have to modify anything, but I still cut some length, there is already way too much wire in my truck that I added :) BD harness is made in China though

I will be able to just replace the lights later with LP6s without touching anything inside or messing with the wiring

Okay, I could post my picture and say: "Compare to Brad Pitt at 28":bananadance:

I don't think anyone's going to confuse us.

Actually I think the $149 is a little high considering it's HF.

We used to sell them most of their fasteners, but lost most of the business to price. (Our fasteners are undoubtedly the lowest cost items on their BOM @ pennies/ea.)

I’ll take a lifetime warranty over 90 days for a couple hundred bucks anytime. If that thing craps out at 91 days you’re SOL (unless you buy the extended warranty). Has happened to me before. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a HF fanboy but not in this particular situation.

Plus, BD has great customer service. Bought a secondhand light bar that I wanted to have serviced and gone over. Anthony picked up the phone and told me what to do. He said “I’ll shoot you an email summarizing what we talked about on this call”. I was expecting to get an email later that day or maybe the next. It hit my inbox within 5 minutes.

I have never had any problems with the BD lights on my truck or my motorcycle, but my buddy stripped the threads on the housing of his BD lights when moving them from one vehicle to another. A dissimilar metal issue I think. He sent them back and BD rebuilt them, free of charge. I'd rather buy into that than the lure of a lower first cost of a knock off product.

Baja Designs support is great. We smoked an LP9 clip on the housing last Baja trip. Emailed them sent it in and returned no questions asked.

There's also the consideration of how you're going to be using (or maybe not using) them.

If they're just decoration for mall crawling, the HF would likely be just fine.

    upload_2024-3-29_8-7-52.jpg

If you're gonna' be bombing through the desert at speed, HF won't last very long. BD is DEFINITELY a top tier product that will hold up to abuse.

HF warranty is 29 bucks for 2 years for this light. If you have problem with the light you just go to the store and replace it (and buy another warranty). You can buy one warranty if you bought multiple lights, it will still work as long as you are not bringing them all together :)

I actually just tested them both together with the AMAZON "LP6" Knock offs.
    Here is what I find.
    https://youtu.be/KJhZQ--h4bw?si=mmJyL9_jnmvO0pBt

Baja Design is still giving the best performance in terms of the distance, zone3 coverage, and the relatively warmer color temperature is much easier to my eyes.

HF outshines BD in terms of the fog pattern like low beam, it covers a much wider area but not as much for zone3 on the far side. and is less bright.

Amazon "LP6" knock offs, no visible spot beam, not great for close to vehicle coverage either.

Now after testing them all, I finally understand why the BD's real deal LP6 is appealing to lots of people amid the price tag. But if you are tight on the budget, I'd take HF over any AUXBEAM or "LP6" Knock offs all day.

That is great to know, I am having a big time difficulty of trying to remove the side bolts on my baja squadron pro, I think the blue loctite that came on the bolt thread may be the reason, all the bolts are rounded off and they were not giving....
