Cab ceiling storage for AC

I tried searching, but maybe I'm not using the right keywords. I was wondering if anyone has used cargo nets or even better, made something custom to hang from the ceiling in the back seat of the AC. Is there something that mounts to top grab bars? I'm looking for either a shelf or maybe molle. So I can put small things out of the way and off the floor. Things like a hatchet, flashlight, a tarp or stuff a spare change of clothes in. Any ideas are welcome even back seat storage in general.

 

I'll ask this only because it may help others answer your Q: Are you willing to delete the rear seat? Or is this purely a roof-focused mounting?

 

I have considered it, but I occasionally have enough passengers to need a seat in the back. Has anyone taken out just one side? My main purpose for the ceiling is to have easy access to small items without digging through a box or going into under seat storage.

 

The rear seat back comes out as one piece, it would require some custom work to half-delete.

I like the molle idea, and using "oh-shit"-bars as mounting points. I haven't seen it done, though.

 

This week I am going to take some measurements and see what I can come up with to stretch across there. I'm thinking velcro won't be sturdy enough to hold anything to the handle. Maybe snaps or clips. I will probably have to sew a custom size. Good thing I am part goblin and save zippers, clips and whatnot from items before I throw them out.

 

honestly, I think even hose clamps might hold them super sturdy. Or get wild, punch a few holes into the headliners, just large enough for a bolt or something, undo the handles and slide something underneath? Then remount.

I don't even need a molle but that idea seems super rad and now I'm gonna go buy one lol

 

There was a guy making custom cargo nets just as you describe in one of the Tundra Facebook groups. I’ll try to find it, but they weren’t expensive and looked great.

 

Ooh. I like the idea of bolting something into the handle mounts. Since I don't have back seat passengers often, I don't really need them. How deep into the headliner can I bolt something in? I assume a 1/2 or less before you poke through the roof.

I believe I saw someone making something similar for ACs at one point too, but here is a molle panel for DCs that attaches to the overhead handles in the backseat in case this helps anyone:

That is awesome. I'll have to see if it fits. I wasn't looking to spend that much, but that is pretty cool.

 

I’d be hesitant to strap a hatchet to the ceiling, have it inside a cargo net, or setting it on a shelf. It hurts bad enough when a 25’ tape measure hit me in the temple during a light roll over. Hatched and flashlights are going to either hurt a whole lot more, or if hit hard enough you won’t feel anything whatsoever.

 

I would be afraid something would fall out and damage my ceiling fan

That is why the hatchet lives in the driver's door pocket. Perfect in an emergency and for self-defense egress.

 

Though larger, chainsaw is faster
