My attempt at 100K maintenance

The Care Care Nut videos are a very good source of information and you can't go wrong with his information. Brake fluid is hygroscopic meaning that it absorbs water as it ages and the reason for changing it. You can get brake fluid test strips at any parts store and you can test the brake fluid fo make sure you need to change it.

 

Don't bother draining the engine block. Just drain the fluid. You will get enough of the coolant out. When we do a fluid exchange at the dealership just the rad is drained. You will never get out all of the coolant. It's the same when you do the transmission service. You are just draining the oil that's in the pan and your only getting about a third of the oil that's in the transmission.

 

It's not woth the risk on opening brake bleeder screws when someone is this new to mechanical service work and he would have to bleed the system afterwards which, if done wrong, can be a safety concern.

 

So just drain the coolant in the radiator and fill it back up with a gallon of Toyota LLC. Drain from the plug on the bottom of the radiator next to the skid plate? Making sure I understand correctly? I did all ready buy 3 gallons of the Toyota LLC from the local dealership, wonder if I will be able to return the other 2 gallons?

 

So best to wait to bleed until I replace the brake line with SDHQ brake lines?

 

Yes, very easy to do. You will only need just over a gallon on coolant. I just did mine a couple of months ago and I needed just over a gallon. Buy two gallons and save the what you have left over for top ups or your next coolant service.

Find a clean length of tubing that fits over the radiator drain that way you can monitor the coolant as it's draining. You can buy it at many hardware stores.

 

Why do you want to replace your brake lines?

 

Awesome. Thank you for the advice and guidance. I should be able to knock out both the brake fluid and coolant tonight, weather permitted.

 

Maybe within the next couple of months. There is no real rush, I hope?

 

What's wrong with your brake lines?

 

Nothing really. I am going to install Bilsten 6112/5160s on the truck this summer so figured better and a little longer brake lines will be needed. Please correct me if I'm wrong with this thought path.

 

Most lifts don't require brake lines. The only issue I have seen is a tight rear brake flex hose on a moderate lift but it just required bending the bracket down to give some slack.

That’s a get rid of safe from years ago.

 

I'm in the market for a gun safe with shelves for ammo, cleaning kits and what nots and be able to fit a few rifles, shotguns and pistols. I would like to spend around $600, so looking at ones from tractor supply.

 

Check Costco also. I recommend to all my friends a $600-$1000 safe. It doesn’t need to be a super expensive one to get the job done.

 

I’m a huge advocate of gun safes. I believe if you own firearms they should have a “safe” place. I got mine once we had kids. My kids all shoot and wouldn’t mess with them without me but I don’t trust their friends.

 

I got this one. Bought from a guy that never even put in his house for 400. Maybe look around for used Liberty Safe Revere, 42 Long Gun + 4 Handgun, E-Lock, 40 Min Gun Safe, Midnight Bronze at Tractor Supply Co.

 

Black Friday is a great time to grab a deal and have it shipped to the house. Moving them can be a pain if you don’t have a plan
