    it's not quite that extreme, but big storms and weekends especially combined can be rough

    @FirstGenVol
    What route are you taking? I have an off grid property very near Ft Garland on hwy 160 between Walsenburg and Alamosa. Very close to Great Sand Dunes NP. If you folks are heading thru there, I could time it with work to at least meet up with you in Ft Garland for a meet and greet. I have some things I need to get done on my property that I was going to do on Memorial Day weekend, but I can move that up easy. Let me know. PM'd @azTony. Ha! I'll PM you.

    The weekend's are always worse. Much more traffic and if a storm and tourists combine with a Saturday, it does close from time to time, kinda like winning or losing a coin toss. Follow the Colorado state patrol on twitter to get the latest updates on closures and reopenings during these events. Like @b6graham said it's really not that bad. Sure it can close but only if weather is around. And if weather is around and you take Alternate routes like 40 or 160 you're now on 2 lane highways with less traffic but also less plow maintenance. Not to mention that the mileage doesn't add up to spend that much extra time to go around unless you're planning on seeing things off those routes. Bring a cooler and hang out on 70, you'll likely end up spending less time even if you do get stuck on 70.

    But all this talk is really the best part of this site. Everyone has an opinion to give you and you can take all those opinions and plan for an adventure you want. Let's not forget that the adventure begins when plans go awry. Just my 2 cents from a boy who grew up in the mountains and still lives here as a grown ass man in his fifties. Someone once told me, don't over trip your trip. Make the loose plans and let the trip unfold as it does. No need to worry over things out of your control.

    I'll be coming in from Kansas on 70 and stopping in Keystone for 2 nights. I'm not sure if we'll make it that far south or not. The bad thing about driving cross country like this is that there isn't enough time to see everything you want. Colorado is just our layover this time. I'm realizing we need a separate trip to explore Colorado. If it looks like we will make it South of Denver I will definitely let you know and I appreciate the invite.

    @OldGuy03 I think we're going to take your advice and go into Moab the scenic route through Gateway. Great suggestion.

    Moab will be quite nice! Yeah, the 70 is a bit north. Ha! I remember now you mentioning going through Keystone. Will definitely be a nice trip, especially through Gateway.

    This is blowing my mind haha! Wife went to Texas to race this weekend. It started dumping snow around Leadville. But we’re 25 minutes west of vail and it was sunny all day. I was working with the shop garage door open. :rofl:

    Be safe, it doesn’t seem like its letting up very much.

    Nope. I've got nothing going on right now, just an 88 XJ that I'm having issues titling.

    I miss my Slate Metallic Tundra. Life kind of threw a few curve balls (most are my responsibility) but I'm working on getting back on the right track

    Coloradans are great at that nonsense. Popular for being popular. So stoopid. Maybe they’ll start shooting each other like the aurora in n out. Now that’s exciting. Actually work with a guy whose family is visiting from Texas…and heading up there from Denver. ???

    That’s probably what casa Bonita would be like if they opened it up without reservations.

    I'm not sure what all the fuss is about? In & Out is a burger chain. They are not gourmet burgers. No way in hell would I wait in line for 2+ hours for a burger.

    I'm pretty sure that this is the first Colorado Buc-ees. So it's not even a stupid famed burger chain. It's even worse, it's just some stupid gas station. I'm with you though, there is no reason to get your panties all soaked up over either one.

    Meanwhile, CU is playing in the NCAA tournament against Marquette…..but CU lost. CU was fun to watch this past year. Hopefully they will return next year!
