Without getting into all the gory details I can say coons have some very strong after death reflexes lasting a few seconds. One dropped instantaneous after shot and it was a CCI Standard Velocity 22LR. Between the eyes and glanced up his forehead and over his head. Trailcam caught him waking up almost an hour later and walking off. I think it was the next night he came back one last time. That's why I use the centerfires.

That is why I have resorted to a trap and drowning. I did go after a big raccoon in our backyard a few weeks ago that was terrifying the chickens (lots of ruckus and squealing but no chickens caught). I let loose with a DA revolver that mostly scared him off (haven't seen him since and I'm pretty sure I missed him). We are 3-5 acre lots here, probably can't use centerfires (unless it is a coyote or mountain lion, then all bets are off).

Whatever this forum told me to do
    The details.

so I woke up and checked the trap

It appeared that he had bumped the trap and triggered it. He was not in it.

so I was sad he got away again

I picked up the trap and set it just behind the bulkhead and rearmed it

went in side for about 10 minutes

came back outside to move the trap and he was in it!!

    I was floored

relocated it, with the rest of his family, to Montgomery tx Chik Fil a

Old college roommates and I had a coon. Simon. He was cute but he was also an asshole.

As for messy, I'm sure we could have learned a thing or two from him...

I was told by a professional trapper that you have to relocate them a minimum of 10 miles away, or they will find their way back, if you don’t believe me spray a little orange, on the tip of his tail and see if it reappears

I was just wondering if it was one that had been previously relocated coming home. Could be a very sweet prodigal son type story. :D

If you have any national forests nearby you could also reach out to the Forest Service/Game and Fish and see if they'd be willing to relocate them out in the wilderness. Could save you a trip and build some good will with them for when you are out hunting/fishing later.

You would be surprised how many of those masked bandits there are. They adapt great to the encroachment of the humanoid!!:) As long as you are taking them a mile or two away the piney woods oak trees and other subdivisions will swallow them up and new homes will be found/made. Keep up the good work, it’s easy and cheap and you are doing them good. Or you could help out the Turkey Buzzard Preservation Society and put a pellet to the brain pan and dump them in the woods!! :)

An analogy: Boat to the middle of you lake and with a solo cup, scoop out some water. What happens to the water surrounding the void you just made?

I've dipped that red solo cup 299 times on my property.
