What have you done to your 2.5 gen Tundra today?

Finally took advantage of a slow-ish day at the station and installed a replacement Pop & Lock that was living on my workbench; the original quit working a while back. Pretty straight forward with plug-n-play.

 

Okay I also ordered the retrax. It was $200 off with free shipping right now. Figured it probably doesn’t get too much better.

Installed TRD Pro fog lights (Rigid OEM LED ones) on my 19 SR5.

Why did no one warn me that changing out the fog light bezels when you have BumperShellz on is almost impossible? What a huge PITA it was.

 

Anyone on here running sliders as steps? I have sliders on both my Tacomas and I really don’t see how they can be used as an effective step. Being that I don’t plan on doing any hard wheeling I’m leaning toward some n fab steps or something, just hate they don’t bolt to the frame.

 

Started the interior blackout process. Not sure where it will end, but started South and will work North. Great opportunity to dismantle and clean every piece. A little greasy under the bottom layers was good, too

 

I'm curious where this goes.

I've never had sliders, but I also don't like my running boards.

Put some multicam black vinyl on my chrome caps today. It was a bit harder than I thought but it came out nice.

 

I’m worried that you’re going to end up radicalized hanging out with bad characters like that

I've got Westcott sliders on mine and they are mainly used as steps due to the fact that I don't get out nearly enough to use them as they were designed. I had SDHQ sliders before, but the wife had a hard time using them as steps due to the sliders not having a flat place to step onto. The Westcott sliders are much easier for the wife to use as steps. Both are very well built sliders, but if you intend to use them as steps then I'd go with Westcott for the win.

 

Yeah Westport or cali raised step sliders would be the best choices I’ve seen, unfortunately they don’t make them for double cabs.

RCi and Ironman 4x4 look like they don’t have enough space for a good step

 

I use mine as steps - I’ve got White Knuckle sliders (you can get them with a flat top - mine are not).

I had the n-fab podium steps - stainless with powder coat finish. Had the powder coat peel off the leading edge of the steps (were dirt hits then from the tires) twice. They replaced them through warranty, but I would say that the finish isn’t up to par. I know others that have gotten them line-x’d and such. For what they are, they were a nice step.

 

I have RCI sliders, I don't use as steps (truck isn't tall enough) but definitely could

 

I have the White Knuckle sliders with metal plate inserts. They came with stainless hardware to install/remove the plate if needed. I ordered them unfinished and did it myself with color matched Raptor liner.

I'm running RCI sliders on my '21 Pro w/o plates, and so far I'm very happy with them in terms of fit, function, appearance and even use as a step. The width is deceptive when the door is closed because of the contour of the doors which bump out about 1 1/2-2". I think you can see what I'm talking about in this photo. However, once one of the doors is opened, the width of the slider is more than sufficient for a surefooted step; this is also confirmed by the wife who uses them every time she's in or out of the vehicle as a step and said she's had no problems with them...



... the one 'negative' that I'll add is that if you don't have a traditional 'step surface' like some of the other guys are showing, I have found that when temps are below freezing, the black powder coating is super slick to step on. We don't get below freezing more than a couple days a year, so I don't worry about it, but if that was more prevalent in our area I'd either add the top plates to them or use some kind of a bedliner surface to get more traction. I've heard a couple of the guys throwing skateboard tape on them at their touch points for better grip

 

I have been thinking of making up a way to attach top plates to mine without having to redo the powder coat.

 

I’m sure you can pretty simply fab up some brackets to the inside edges to attach a top plate without affecting the function of the slider.

 

Yeah, but I’d have to grind the powder coat to weld to it.
I’m thinking along the lines of a conduit strap with nuts welded to the “ears” that strap under the cross-bars. Then bolt the plate to the straps.

 

Gotcha. The only issue I see is the cross bars sit as low as the outer bars. If you do end up using the slider as intended, it will damage or just break off those straps.

That’s part of my concern/consideration as well.
I may just end up with skate deck tape on the outer bar like I’ve seen a few others do

 

I hear ya. My issue was my wife isn’t so sure footed. So her foot going through these dang things would be fun time over… in more areas than one.

 

Used Por15 caliper paint for the first time. Applied with a small brush and goes on pretty smooth.

 

Played in some snow in Colorado this week!
